I am a graduate student with an F-1 visa . My passport expires in feb 2007. My department is renewing the financial support for the next year (2006-2007). They told me that they need my passport valid throughout the year of 2007 to renew the support. I wonder if it is possible to renew the passport even if it is valid for almost a year from now. Any help about it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

rajaharischandra,
I think it has to be 6 month prior to expiry date but Yes you can renew a year in advance. But like someone said earliercall the embassy first coz I don't work in Nepalese embassy and their rules changes according to their mood.

Good Luck

Thanks for all who shared the informations. I called both of Royal Nepalese Consulate General and Royal Nepalese Embassy. I am not sure if the lady who answered my phone in Embassy understood my situation. She even did not want to listen my situation and here is what she told me " we renew the passport but not earlier than six months validity period , send it right now, you can send it now, your passport is valid for nine months and it normally takes one month to renew the passport." I could not understand her mathematics. And in Consulate's office, the lady told me that every body was out for lunch so no one was there to answer my question and I guess it was around 2 pm there in NY. I will keep calling them till every body gets back from the lunch. Hope they dont have day long lunch.

cheers!!
