Let the money circulate in the economy, it is good for the local economy. As a matter of fact these types of lavish marriage ceremonies should be encouraged especially when the country is going through distress. It is similar to building roads in america during WWII to get the country out of recession.

Thank you for the nomination. :-)

Keeping humor aside why do people object to lavish marriages? These types of marriages are common in India esp. when the marriage was with some royals of India.

There is nothing wrong if people want to spend lots of money or all their money for the marriage of their loved ones. If you look at the bigger picture, there is nothing wrong with it.

We advocate free society but get jealous when we see people spending money. There was one thread here in sajha which advocated killing all the people in kathmandu who spend lots of money in restaurants when rest of the country do not have enough to eat. However the logics thinking of the poor are commendable it was disgusting to see how they want to resolve the problem - maobadi style.

With this mentality we want to see free and sovereign Nepal which can compete with the rest of the world of the twenty first century? Dont make me laugh!

I didn't wonder if someone tries to compare the wedding ceremony with that of Indian Maharaj (parasites). What a good evidence for support.

please do no try to prove so-called pseudo-intellectualism.

do not also make me laugh by talking about bigger picture.

Just because some people are bad and some people elsewhere are doing bad do not justify for badness.

अस्तु।

No my friend I am not trying to support the marriage or justify their behavior. I am talking about spending in marriage or overspending..

You CAN mix social issues with political, political with social and CAN make a good spaghetti nothing more. Over spending is a social issue not political. Think about all the money they spent where did you think it went? To the bands, flower shops, local restaurants, hotels etc. and who owns these shops? Despite your disagreements there are Nepalis who make their living by supporting these types of social functions whats wrong with that?

And tell me which economist says spending is bad in any shape or form?

Obviously, it is a social issue. However, in above case, it can not be limited within a boundary of social issue because he holds the post in a constituent body (before his sacking). He is obliged to answer to the people, and not setting a good example to the people. People of Nepal have right to ask where these all money come from? What is his salary? Were his forefathers were so rich? It won't be a big thing if other people do it. Even that, I'm against this notion of economic theory and I strongly despise overspendings during wedding ceremonies.

There was the news published during gyane regime. Many houses were burnt in a remote village in Nepal, and asked for help for some lacs (Rs.) from the government. Government officially replied saying lack of funds; at the same time, it release much more funds to the "Pasni" ceremony for the grand son of gyane.

Besides that, I've many more reasons against overspending in wedding parties. If it really helps the economy, why the hell was the law made in Nepal saying 'more than 50 people cannot participate'? Why do only these freaking laws are required in south asian countries?

Please no more pseudo-intellectualism. Let's talk looking at reality and truth, not some economic theories from the book.

gwajyo,
As far as personal beliefs go I am with you, I personally do not like when people borrow money, spend all their life savings on marriage BUT that is not the issue here. The issue I am talking is about rich spending money (again I am not talking about pyres political stand).

If my opinion sounds "pseudo" to you there is no reason to voice my opinion. Why bother with my "pseudo" opinion of knowledge which was acquired from books? right? Where did you acquire not-so-pseudo knowledge, from palm leaves?? lol

Obviously, I agree with your point that rich class spending inside the country will help economy rather than putting in a foreign account. As you also agreed, this is very different case, and if government has guts, it should go for an investigation to discourage such acts from people in the position. He not only gave the bad example, misused his positions as any other people in the position does by misuse of vehicles, personnels, and other resources. News clearly says (highlighted) that 2,000 army personnel helped to decorate the house. Army personnel asks extra funding to give security to telephone towers, to build roads or schools. Now, they've got enough personnel to decorate that damn house. So,I'm using pseudo as a context of deviation from the reality. So, these acts do not help to nepalese economy, and should be condemned.

gwajyo,
> I agree with your point that rich class spending inside the country will help economy
There is no disagreement on overspending on social occasions. Ok lets move on..

> ..misused his positions..
(for the said marriage)
I am no army spokesperson but I think the army provides its resources during major events in the house of army executives, as a "fringe benefit" so to speak. Again I am not advocating for what he did is right but rather saying that if he did not break any law why punish him? I have seen army personnel being provided to one of my neighbors house, he was a major during his brothers marriage, they even provided band, chariot, tons of army personnel etc.

The main point I was trying to convey in my first message what that lets not get carried away, take a moment to see all sides before making a stand. This is the only way Nepal can move ahead, only by being rational we- you and I, common citizens who are not related to politics can change Nepal by doing the best we can (from where ever we are), there is no other way.

On the side note Nepal is in a state of chaos, everyone is blaming anyone. People are bouncing around like the chicken with the heads chopped off, it is a result of lack of strong leadership. There is a leadership vacuum in the country. Unless people take a moment to think about issues rather than allow to be carried away, there is no way out.

Don't talk about rationality as the graundeur of the marriage simply exceeds that of King G's daughter also. The first question that would come is, from where he got all the money to perform such a lavish ceremony. The answer is simple. this COAS is simply corrupt. And that too in this grim situation of Nepal. In this time, the army personnel should be mobilized to protect the villagers in remote regions (as if they will do) but now they will be busy for five days serving the marriage. I agree with SHIV that army do provide baja gaja, helpers to conduct such a ceremony even to Major but this time the facility has been misused. The room booking in Soalty, Mujara from India, etc simply isn't paid by Army, it is rather paid by the money he acquired (obviously not from salary). Now lets see if these SPA leaders will go to or protest such an invitation.

Understood about army's priviledges. However, slavery should also be abolished inside army. Using 'army' as slaves to do personnel houselholds including letting him wash clothes, buy groceries, and all these are disgrace to the society. The time has come to abolish the tradition of slavery in RNA.

Exactly gwajyo. Nepal army is full with personal priviledges to the extreme (Kripawaad, chaakadi). This time, the COAS has misused and overused it.
