No offence but why madhesis are so unhappy and trying to dis-integrate country? As far as I understand madhesi are one who are for Madhesh (Tarai) region of Nepal. I think I learnt in my high school geography that even Biratnagar/ Morang fall in Terai region. Girija is based there so current PM of Nepal is from Madhesh one among Madhesis. Then why are they crying foul everywhere? ( I am talking about their protest on making Subash Nembang HoR speaker.)

I have also heard somewhere that they might demand autonomous region. I guess, division of Nepal is an unacceptable demand.

To be more clearer I am not saying that we should hate Madhesis or anything. Madhesis are Nepalese and have equal right. But why do Madhesis claim they are being supressed from opportunity while one among them is PM. The only reason for crying foul would be

- Girija though is a Madhesi, is not doing anything to help them. Then go cry with him, blame him for not helping Madhesi being Madhesi, why do you blame others

- If Girija is not Madhesi, then whole definition of Madheshi should be changed, please define what exactly Madhesi mean.

i am thinking of madeshis that go to school with you--dark skinned and teased, the ones that brought fruit to your homes back in the day, the ones that got beat up and mistreated, their fruit and vegetables stolen. Why single out madeshis for trying to further their interests? Aren't all groups doing the same thing? The bigger problem is one of infighting that started with the thapas and pandeys and basnets way back from the court of narbhupal shah in gorkha....it has never changed! girija appointed one as the speaker and the other got pissed. That's all. Why make it an divisive issue. Who are madeshis, however, is a great question. I just wanted to point out that we should not deny the fact that madeshis are discriminated.

This Kiwigal chick makes me laugh sometimes. Being Nepali herself, she likes to look down upon Nepalis. Bahadur re, no... not as a translation for the word "brave" but in derogarative sense that dhotis usually use.

Hey Kiwiho, yes I called you HO... deal with it! Are you some jilted Madwadi's ugly, fat on sugary diet, daughter from Kathmandu who could not fit in and asked daddy dear to bank-roll your education in Kiwiland? But why NewZealand? Could not get into schools in the US or UK or Australia?

Tsk!

Guys dont go by the literal definition here. Madheshi also called 'Madhise' around terai
region are of course the people living in terai region, but actually are an ethnic groups
who have been living in terai, way before bahuns, chhetris or newars came to terai. I really dont know
their origin but I suspect they came from area around bihar and UP and rajasthan of india. And they speak their own language(s) that is very close to hindi.
Long time ago the madheshis used to own most of the terai region. That was till bahuns and the chhetris came to the scene. The bahuns and chhetris were very shrewd people. They came to terai and took
over terai exploiting the naiveness of local madheshis. They seized most of the land owned by madheshis and pushed them into poverty.
But not all of them were so naive. There were few very smart ones also known as "Madwaris" now. Well they took over whole nepal. So its not the matter of madheshis
being opressed now, poor people always face some sort of opression everywhere in the world. It doesnt matter if you are a bahun or a madheshi if you are poor u will feel a bit opressed.
But in human world things are not that simple. Being in a minor community makes you feel that the whole community is a single body. Probably the people living abroad realize this thing. If one member of the communiy gets picked the whole community feels the effect.
I can understand why the madheshis feel bit alienated. There is a huge gap between the madheshis and the rest. But its not entirely the fault of
bahuns or chhetris or newars. I can tell by fact that most(not all) of the madheshis feel closer to India than with Nepal. If the madheshis want to integrate with the main stream they
should first feel that they are nepalese and they belong to nepal.
But on the basis of right they all have same rights as any nepalese has. In fact they might be better off because they are trusted by the rich madwaris and they recruit them in their companies more than other nepalis. If you go to any factory owned by madwaris you will find 80% of the people working there are madheshis.
Anyway I think its not the problem of ethnicity here. The main problem is poverty and education. If we can get rid of these problems this problem will eliminate itself. Well you know nepal has such a weak body that it is shaken by every passing breeze.

Who says 'madhesis' are unhappy? u can't come to conclusion from what few people are saying. there are a lot of people in nepal who want to make a career out of doing politics of caste, creed n religion. perhaps this is because of the high unemployment rates.

nowadays everyone is trying to make their career by forming all sorts of mukti morchas. not only madhesis, but magar, gurung, rai, newar mukti morchas and so on. last time i heard of majhi and danuwaar mukti morcha as well ! so this is a fashion nowadays. newa mukti morcha demanded for newa autonomous region in ktm valley saying that newars are oppressed ! if newars are oppressed in nepal, then i don't know what is the meaning of the term 'oppression'.

and do the majority of people of the particular community support their respective mukti morchas??? this is a topic which can only be decided by a referendum.

and the term 'madhesi' is itself confusing. what does 'madhesi' mean? if it means someone staying in madhesh, then g. p. koirala is also a 'madhesi' and also are the bahuns, chhetris, magars, newars etc - the so called 'pahadi' groups which constitute around 45% of the total terai population as per the 2001 census.

If 'madhesi' connotes the so called typical terai etnic groups, then they are in a minority in 10 out of the 20 terai districts itself, including Jhapa, makwanpur, dang, sunsari, morang etc.

In the terai districts of mid west and far west as well (baanke, bardiya, kailali, kanchanpur) the predominating terai group is the Tharus, who have their own thaaruwaan mukti morcha, and i don't think they in any way are in favour of the madhesi identity.

majhis, danuwars, santhaals, rajbanshi, tharu, musahar, jhangads etc form the majority of the terai ethnic groups in the eastern terai. they are in no way related to the 'madhesi mukti morcha'. so is the term' madhesi' being used to denote residents of the predominantly maithili and bhojpuri speaking townships of Janakpur, Rajbiraj and Birgunj? Or is this a term being used by few of the politically conscious, higher castes and communities of terai origin? I am confused. because terai of nepal is an etnically diverse region which cannot be represented by the narrow vision provided by the term 'madhesi'.

Prjatantra- first of all do ur homework( research) while u open such a thread.. I mean when u r ready to poke somebody its better to have real informations in hand..
For ur kind information majority of Nepal’s population is from madhes ( often referred as MADHESIS). But ideologically, the term madhesi goes to only who looks alike to Indians. If u find any Bahuns or chettri from Madhes u rarely find them connoting themselves as madhesis instead they never miss an opportunity to make fun of those..

Everything- what the sick kind of comment is that… I mean, u literally outnumbered him cause he tried to speak for his identity.. clear ur views..

Divdude- “If the madheshis want to integrate with the main stream they
should first feel that they are nepalese and they belong to nepal.” You sorry ass.. f**k u sick ass…What do u mean by that.. U can probably look at urself how discriminating towards madhesis u r..
“There were few very smart ones also known as "Madwaris" now.” I bet u really are pissing lot of elite madhesis out there by this comment. Madwaris are smart but the madhesis are not madwaris.. Most madwaris came to Nepal to do business and most of them do posses now the nepali citizenship so they are nepali..

Look at the opportunity given to madhesis in Nepal.. There are very few madhesis holding higher position in government offices.. Name me any madhesis holding a higher rank in Army sector.. Its not that madhesis can’t fight for their country, its just that they r not together to fight for their identity.. Look at the “Hrithik Rosan kanda”, why all of sudden madhesis were attacked by their own nepali brothers.. Yes, there is a huge gap, and it will sort out once all the madhesis will speak for their rights.

hey freedom fighter tell me this how is making Hindi trying to act like Nepali. I though the people from madhes spoke Maithali and Bhojpuri. Another point is what are you talking about Medhesi are not in main stream politics, when I believe it was 41 or 45 out of 205 MPs are Madhesi orgin. No other groups in Nepal have that kind of representation.

I agree with ne23pe..Correct ..Madeshi have big chunk of representation in Nepal's Parliament .Have been always awarded Minister level position.
And how do they respect Nepal by speaking HINDI in paliament not maithali or bhojpuri BUT hindi!!!!and people ask why people discriminate them(i am not saying discriminate indians but you know nepali public)

The reason why they speak Hindi is becuase you all (All Nepalese) understand Hindi than Maithali or Bojpuri.

Who is you favorite actor? Salman Khan/Sanjay Dutt or Rajesh Hamal?

Who is your favorite actress?
Aishwarya Rai or Melina?

Coolnepali .. are you sure they are trying to convey their message by speaking hindi???Even if they had spoken maithali or Bhojpuri they would have more respect in thier own community than hindi.
yes we are influenced by hindi cinemas , does that mean we need to Speak hindi, wear dhoti????We are as influenced by hindi movie as Pakistan or bangladesh. So now they should stop speaking urdu and begali.i am sure they understand hindi too.

BigballsR..please don't be so ignorant.Madeshi's are as equal nepali as someone who is born in KTM.they are Nepali

Madeshi should first be proud to be nepali, then madeshi

ne23pe- there are several groups in madhesi, maithili and the bhojpuri are not the only language spoken. These language are in light because people in the popular cities in terai speak these language.. go to the remote areas and then u will find varities of tribal language.. 41/205 are given to terai people but look at those figures who are holding it, isn’t those held by the bahun’s and chettris who migrated to terai… tell me any madhesi appointed as PM.. Also, let me remind you madhesis are not Indians. People u see selling vegetables in ktm on their bicycles are not madhesis, they r from India, and they will certainly speak hindi , so speculating that madhesis are promoting hindi looking at them is tolal absurd and nuisance..

ImI- i bet u know any maithili or bhojpuri word.. if i start speaking in maithili or bhojpuri ur head will spin.. so stop hypothesizing what the language is like without knowing it..

BIgballaR- madhise is the discriminating reference given to trerai people by the domiinating figures.. terai people are called madheshi as terai is also refered as madhes.. but calling madhise, its like calling pakhe or torpe to the people of hilly regions... so watch out before u speak such word in front of any terai basi..
