Just wanted to take a moment to point sajha visitors to the "Our Differences" discussion usergroup in sajha.

We have had to create this usergroup in order to classify some discussion topics as being nothing more than our differences. These topics mostly deteriorates into hot headed arguments and then further into intolerant, foul and indecent language.

It is the aim of sajha to bring together our diverse caste, clan, languages under one all inclusive tolerant society where we respect our differences yet come together as one Nepali family.

Sometimes this can be tough because it's easy to give a piece of ones mind under an anonymous name. In a way, this ability to express one's pent up anger and frustration is good. But too much of it begins to undermine the well being of the whole group. Deleting threads like that would be a easy way out but it does not mean that these things don't exist in our Nepali society.

More and more I have realized that Sajha is some kind of a virtual snapshot of our Nepali society. In real interactions it would not be feasible for everyone to express what they want regarding such caste issues hence in order to give space to these kind of real issues, I have created a discussion group called "Our Differences" where interested people can continue to discuss these issues, without making these the main discussions appearing on the front page of sajha.

Threads like these are not considered to be moved into the "Our Differences" group, until and unless this kind of discussion gets prolonged and continues for over a week. After that, these are moved over. You can access these and continue the discussions if you are interested in this location - http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/openforum.cfm?forum=131

Let us join our hands and minds for more tolerant, respectful and positive discussions and interactions among us.

Best wishes,
San

Hi San,

Thanks a lot for stepping forward and taking action against such prejudice. Racial hatred and degrading each other based on race is absolutely nonsense.

Thanks to the Admin for doing something about the racial slurs seen all over Sajha in past few days/weeks. If we can't find unity among ourselves, then we are digging a hole for ourselves....Be it a Newar, Bahun, Magar or Sarki for that matter. In some threads, I read in a different thread about someone even accusing Hinduism as a racial religion. I think we can be civil and still have a open discussion about these issues. We don't have to agree or follow what other says, but just being receptive to other's ideas and beliefs does not hurt/degrade one's pride. Apparently, some of us have real strong opinion about the other castes but cursing and bitching at eachother will not solve anything. Let us appreciate the differences among us, and grow and prosper together !

San,
Having strict policies are important to maintain the integrity of the site. I understand the importance of free speech that does not mean hatred and racism should be tolerated.

I couldnt agree more that there should be open discussion about the problems in the society that does NOT mean hate and racism should be tolerated.

The beauty of diversity can only be witnessed in the acceptance of different opinions and cultures but not by degrading, humiliating, defamatory and derogatory comments nor by accepting those comments as acceptable part of communication.

Why even wait a week for those hateful threads, to float around? Move them or even better delete them!!

Let me shake your realities. Caste system is here to stay. As long as you have an ability to perceive and process reality you will continue to judge people and that will give rise to a partition mentality. Someone aptly said that "back in the days we used to have caste system, today we have class system."
No matter what you call it, the system to divide the people will find its existence in our society. So all you people who say that you are above this system are mere liars and opportunists. When the opportunity strikes you will show your real color. Think about it.

This is not about either accepting or denying ground realities or to prove either something exists or it doesnt. It is about forming rules to make the users aware of acceptable forms of communication and using decency versus derogatory and defamatory language.

yeah create a norm... what is acceptable and what not? if a picture of a naked girl messaging her pussy is acceptable, why not a discussion about a cultural difference? as someone pointed out above why not ignore things we don't want to listen? i racial hatred is no good but so is the curtailment of freedom of speech without prior notice. hey i am not being a jerk here, just wondering what is acceptable and what not?

admin raised a valid point however... its not what caste/creed system you were born that is important... what is important is what you achieved in your life with your hard work and how you value others irrespective of their caste and creed, race and religion. way to go boss.

i was not offened by what was being said there because i didn't read them. it is as simple as that. i heard people pleading the admin to ban this and ban that... but that doesn't make any sense to you. like how many thread just gets killed without a single resopnse? why can't we completly ignore those? why do you feel compelled to retaliate? and retaliation my oh my what was that? responses were more harsher than the initial threads. anyways... i'm not trying to defend the evil doers. i ain't a saint either... its all good. at the end of the day its all about having fun. i don't come to sajha with my own hidden agenda, be it a raical/communal hatred... or what not. andaj apna apna was fun nevertheless. thanks to the person who posted that here. :)

hyaaaaaaaa racial discrimination on the ground of freedom of speech is not acceptable . Racial discrimination is a crime. Its not about freedom of speech.

One should have right to voice their opinion but not on the races.I know once in a brtish radio one girl abused overseas people in england on the radio on the ground of difference of opinion , she was immediately caught by police and was remprimanded and heavily fined.

San I think you should enter politics. You have lots of supporters here. May be you can start filing petition against racism and discrimination amongst nepalese people towards each other and towards other country citizens too.

I fully agree with HYAAA..... What you call racist is less offensive than the postage of some pronographic stuff- and link to such. What I agree with the ADMIN (San) is they could request the forum members posting genuine and interesting fact and obey the code of conduct of the community forum than abusing it. But what I insist again is that we should allow any kind of posting- untill Sajha believe that the view expressed are merely personal expression. If somebody gets mad, what can you do- let them be so. I really enjoy such diverse posting in Sajha. I quote the statement of Mohandas Gandhi:

"Nobody can hurt me without your permission".

hey i am not racist not supporter of racist, but once i found several thread against some caste and i did not see any action against that kind of thread from adm, then i started to creat thread in support of some caste. Only after that administrator start to stop or block or delete that kind of thread. I am happy now. My intension was not to hurt any caste but to remove all the thread against caste. I still see one thread "i am newar but my freinds are bahun". I hope administrator will remove this thread soon. I can understand adm does not have enough time to care this site everyday, but any way these kind of thread should be removed.

I in favor of healthy discussion on Caste issue of Nepal, not really downgrading other castes or name calling. it is sensitive issue, even if you deny it, it is deep rooted in our society.. there are social discrimination and social injustices in the society because of this caste system... educated circle, intellectuals or policy makers always try to avoid this subject as much possible as they can, instead of addressing it properly...

in fact it is good to have open discussion.. however i oppose those threads that is nothing but a name caling...

Discrimination is prevalent in Nepal. It should be discussed so that it does not happen anymore. But most of the discussions over here about casts turned into hatred rather than anything else.

Still people of lower castes are not allowed in the temples. Still there are people distinguished as untouchables. Speak for them and how to eliminate that. Not against certain creed or race.

Peace Out

racial discrimination is a crime. can't agree to that anymore. but retaliating with even harsher racism is crime too isn't it? thats is why i said, no one is saint here, everyone belongs to certain race/caste/creed and they feel offened if something is said against their caste/creed/race/religion. and if you think someone is committing a crime, you don't answer that with another crime. two wrongs don't make a right.

raise your hand if you have a 12 year old kid doing dishes at your house. now that for me is racism. so its an evil reality that we live in the world where there is racism everywhere, just the name is different. what people were doing here was a discussion, which went out of control with stupid name callings. difference however do exist and just deleting them will not delete the ground reality.

i come to sajha to have fun, not to offend people based on their race/caste/creed. but what if i find something that offends me... either i retaliate or i ignore. retaliation according to you is a crime. anything said against race. so i was just trying not to break the law. hyaaaaaaa. have fun people. na bhako dimaag ke kharcha gari rahanu.

Kaag karaudai cha, pina sukdai cha. Hmi yahn yesari jatiwaad ko birudha ma boldaichaun, uta jatiwadiharu aafno kalam daro pardai chan, jhan jhan hamlai sajha ma man pari type garera wakka lagauna. jaatiwadi ta RACE-RELATED post ma bhanda aru post ma dekhincha. Jatiwaad matra haina, ugliness, prettynerss, hotness yi sappai kurharu ekaichoti kahan ho kahan jun sukai post ma niskincha. Bishesh gari bahuin haru prati ko hatred ta jhanai rampant cha.
Race sambandhi post haru totally ban garidinu parne. Perhaps it is possible to find some loopholes in the govt regulations that allow you to block the IP address itself San?
That was just a lame request i knoe. but till now i hav felt that something must be done to stop these great sons of mothers (and sometimes even daughters) to stop posting BS threads. It really hurts.
HOWEVER. I ALSO FIND THIS. EVERYTIME someone posts such topics, I find myself closer to other fellow nepalese who are with me in sajha, who are with me in in stopping racial disccrimination. Everytime I type against those topics, I feel like I am contributing towards the greater good. Maybe evil is always born, but truth never dies. It's the rule of the world to have evil in it. Otherwise if everyone wass good- there'd be perfect harmony.
so my idea is that LETS LET THESE IDEAS AND THREADS RUN AMOCK. Because those who are against discrimination will never change unles by some life changing experience that'll never happen in sajha. So lets have these people post their nonsense threads. You will find that it is one person who posts, maybe a copuple more in support of him- BUT 50 OR 60 MORE AGAINST THEM THEY JUST POUNCE ON THEM. So there's no harm in these posts- lets show them that the majority of sajhaites can whup their stinky butt filled with discriminated s#!T!!!
