NEPAL IN THE ARENA OF THE BIASED INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY:

Nepal was recently tagged the least democratic nation under King Gyanendra in 2005 and early 2006. The reason had to do with curtailing freedom of media and abuse of human rights of so called the International Community. It is ironical to see and study the developments around the world and how each development seeks for the opportunity for the powerful nations to manipulate situations to be heard and seek their roles in international arena.

It is ironical to an extent that the same international communities seek for peace and on the other hand creates a vacuum in the political conflict in sovereign states. To be precise, the word 'sovereignty' does not seek what it stands for anymore. It is just a glove to satisfy ones beleive that the nation is sovereign and has its own jurisdiction within its own boundaries. In fact, the whole story lies behind the imperialist and developed nations strategies to balance their motive to serve their needs in the poorest of the poorest countries around the globe. The magical word that they can continuously use and term to their motives and to serve their international power hunger is the one and the only word the "DEMOCRACY".

It is widely seen and debated the democratic norms accepted by the major powers of the world including the United States. Their actions are justified in whatever they do because of their one stand of world power. There has been no unified voice amongst the international community when the Sovereign state of Iraq was attacked in the context of "security of the United States". There was no voices raised when thousands and if not millions were brutally killed by American operations in Iraq and others parts of the world. The simple reason is that America could use the term "democracy" and "freedom" to serve their needs. How could international community believe that the most powerful country in the world and their subordinates is following the right path of democracy. The results of democracy in America and other European nations are seen when the prison abuse in Iraq took place, when the Patriot Act passed in the congress in America and also the detaintion of hundreds on legal immigrants on the grounds of what they mentioned as "possible threat to the internal security of the US". Isn't is ironicle to see all these developments when the international community turn their blind eye againsts the happenings in the western countries and have formulated policies in Nepal?

In short, it is a biased world out there. The international community failed to check the terrorism in Africa and Europe, let alone in Nepal. They failed to turn their eyes against Maoists terrorist who is being haboured in Indian soil. They failed to check Pakistani President, and they failed to check the despotic Bhutani King who was invited as an honory chief guest at the Republic Day function in India. How biased could they get?

The context to point at Nepali Crown is obvious and is a soft target. Nepali King might be a strong of a ruler, but he cannot be compared to supressor of people. What harm could have been done if the international community and the political parties cooperated with the King to bring peace and development in the country for the term of 3 years, which the King asked for? I do not see any problem of why they should not have supported the legitimate ruler. The reason is simple, the SPA did not get funds to support themselves and their affiliates. In the name of democracy, the rape of the country has just begun!

I do not see Maosists to come to peace. Their army is nothing more than a bunch of illeterate and ignorant people who dream to dwell in the houses of Kathmandu. International community in the eyes of millions are just a tool of the powerful. The media in Nepal is all politically affiliated and their so called freedom of speech is nothing more than a political opinion to ill guide the masses. In America when media could be curtailed why is it a problem in Nepal? International community should see that their stand on democracy is nothing more than supression of people. Nepal needs democracy but should be a guided-democracy, not by the ignorant masses. I do not think democracy would be a success in western world, if the people did not follow ordid not have a forceful security apparatus to see that it is followed. In context to Nepal, if that existed it would be a violation of human rights. How could a state function without a forceful laws for the benefit of all. In Nepal, it costs only Rs.200 to bail a person out who commits a murder or theft. I do not see it a rightful practise. The Governemnt of Nepal is submessive to an extent that it even sells gasoline at the rate which is far below its purchase price incurring heavy losses to the oil corporation. I beleive that to come to an understanding, Nepal was much peaceful in panchayat era. I do not beleive the rule of the King constitues a despotic regimes. It is seen in Arab nations.... but the only difference is that Nepal is poorer and a landlocked nation so, it depends on others.

International community should not be biased and should not support the Nepalese governemnt by giving aids.... but should establsih better free trade zones which would be better for Nepal in the long term.
