KATHMANDU, May 19: Speakers at a programme organised here today said as sufficient discussion needs to be carried out on matters relating to the issues to be incorporated in the constitution to be drafted by the constituent assembly (CA) and the proportionate representation of all sectors, religion and community in the elections to the CA, decisions to this end should not be taken in a hurry.
Speaking at a seminar organised here today by the National Federation of NGOs for promotion of the Millenium Development Goals, they also pointed out the need to move ahead by preserving the rights attained from the people?s movement.
Speaking on the occasion, NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC said the civil society should continue alerting the political parties until they reach the CA and pointed out the need for every party to be clear on inclusive democracy.
CPN-UML?s Sahana Pradhan said as there is still confusion among us on the issue of going for the CA, there should be sufficient debate on the issue, good examples should be followed, the views of people of every level should be incorporated. She added that the movement for women?s rights is not yet completed.
Dr Sundar Mani Dixit of civil society said there should be equal representative on the basis of geographical diversity for the CA so that every sector and community is represented and added that there should be a provision for direct election of the Prime Minister.
Likewise, Sarita Giri of Nepal Sadvawana Party said the CA should give priority to reconstruction of the state, inclusive democracy and resolving the problem of citizenship.
Chairperson of the Federation Damber Bir Thapa presided.
