‘Janasarkar 001’ mocks traffic rules

By Rajendra Manandhar

DOLAKHA, May 26 - A motorcycle that the Maoists had earlier seized from the District Development Committee (DDC) office is not only used openly by the rebels but has also been given a new registration.

Omitting its real number (Ba-1-Ba 6583), a Maoist commander known as "Kiran", inscribed a new number -- Janasarkar 001 - over the numberplate. Locals in the district headquarters, Charikot, are surprised seeing a motorcycle with this new type of number plate, which is often driven around by Kiran, well-known for his short temper and for behaving rudely with the locals. The Maoist changed the numberplate on Thursday.

Enthusiastic to ride in new vehicles, Kiran, used to drive a vehicle that was seized from the divisional road office earlier. Likewise, he drove an ambulance of a local hospital to ferry injured comrades during the Charikot clash around two years ago.

Several vehicles in Kabre VDC were destroyed due to his wrath when his party was an underground outfit. He also burnt down a vehicle of Ramechhap district health office.

When asked about use of the motorcycle that was seized from king-nominated DDC member Samsher Ghising some four months ago, he said it was used for party work.

The motorcycle was given the "first number" as it was the first vehicle to be registered with the "people's government", he said. Making a mockery of traffic rules, Kiran wears a "dhaka topi" instead of a helmet, which is mandatory. However, policemen at Satdobato check post remain mute spectators when he drives past.

If the government is clever enough here, they could kill two birds with one stone.

They should arrest this guy and put him in jail for a while on the account of violating traffic rules. This way, the law is upheld and a "Paras wannabe" Maoist can be neutralized.

Maoists have ruled with terror and lack of descipline. They know how to break the rules, they know how to threaten, they know violance and they know how to kill. There will be lots of "I own Nepal" type maobadis. They have people loyal to them call them chamchas or what ever you like, how can these ruthless rascals be controlled? Is yet to be seen!
