This is such a Oxymoron kind of poll. We already know there are 85%+ (as per nepali statistics) are hindus, don't you think there will be majority votes by default?
When the poll is conducted, of course, most of the 85% of the nepali people will vote for a Hindu state.

The question is about whether it's a fair thing for every individual nepali to become a secular state. I don't suggest butchering a cow right from today itself. The kind of tolerance among the hindus, buddhists and others in the country is one of the most prominent examples of religious tolerance the rest of the world can learn from. We should preserve this achievement we have maintained for centuries.

But when we as nepalis are considering for a constitutional amendment or an entire new constitution, we should separate the religion from the law, just like separation of Church and State in the US. Though majority of the Americans are christians, it has not been declared a Christian Nation. If we don't do that then people will have to continue to lie on the govenrment job application that they are hindus too so that they will not be discriminated against.

Yes, TM you are very right. It saddens me that sahja admin also placed a poll, won't that far to call the admin of sahja bias nut do say that it is of bad taste. even with a login before voting for accountability does not give a fare assessment of right or wrong!! there will be people with more that one user name. most importantly these polls is not showing democracy but a lack of respect for others dignity as citizens. all the 40 thieves vote to go and rob the village thing does not make it right!!!

Democracy is all about the rights of Majority. It's plain and simple in Democracy. Rule of thumb in Democracy: Numbers are more important.

TM and Gesar,

Fair assesment in democracy is given through numbers.
Do you really think any one of the jokers in thar parliament are capable of running the country? I think not. Only reason they are there smashing their dirty hands on the table like monkeys is that of the number. Learn to respect the number in democracy, even if you find yourself in the other side of the times.

About keeping Nepal a hindu state, I have talked about this in my other postings, its just not about logic. Its more about customs and "afno paan." You talk about separation or religion and law. Isn't it ironic that you have to pass a law for that purpose? How about we dont talk about it and just leave it way it is? Hinduism has never bothered anyone in Nepal, it has always welcomed everyone. Why mess with someone thats so strong to our hearts and hasn't affected anyone?

Even in US they have christmas holidays. Maoist extremists want to get rid of all the Nepalese traditions that we have so they can spread their culture of hate and murder.

Dear memyselfandnepal and Vincent Bodega!
where did you learn that "democracy is all aboutthe rights of Majority"? It's about giving equal and fair rights to every individual and everyone getting a fair shot at succeeding in life.
Let's talk about 'affirmative action act ' in the USA. This law itself is despised by the majority white yet they implemented it (with varying degree of success). Of course, we can never achieve Utopian society but its worth a try.

It is the duty of the government to take care of every individual in the population just like a mother takes care as her own children with impartiality and in return people owe due taxes to the government based on the criteria decided by the legislative body.

I am all for preserving customs and traditions. It should be right of every indvidual to follow any kind of established religion. I have no problem with Dashain and Tihar being observed as national holidays since it is a fact the majority of workforce being hindus won't be able to work during such great festivals.

People I say, stand for a right cause. Let me leave you with this note, "With great power comes greater responsibility". and I salute every powerful individual who abide by that thought.
