There are basically two components. One is Router which is connected to your internet line. It receives internet connection and spread to air as a wave. - another component is adapter that receives the wave signal propagated by router. To enjoy wirless network, you need to have have a router. If your computer does not have built in adapter you need to buy a wirelss adapter too which you can use in USB drive. Router and Adapter of capacity 802.11 g is better than 802 b. This is what this lato knows about wireless network for Internet.(P.S. I am not a computer expert). Hope you will get additional advice from experts.

Latest LapTops come with built in network adaptors, but for the old one you need to buy them. The network adaptors cost around 49 USD. Wireless routers cost around 79 USD.

Several HotSpots like StarBucks have free wireless network in their shops. In airport it will cost 15/20 USD per day or something like that.

Thank you guys. But I have some more questions.

Can I take my laptop to anywhere to get the wireless network connection or to only the places where they say they have wireless internet? Besides, if I use it in the airport, where or to whom do I pay the charge? Is there like a booth or a station?

Could anyone here with experience please answer these questions?

If the airport has enabled wireless access -it is free. I know for sure Long Beach has free access. You might want to check with the airport or the travel agent to see if the airport you are interested in has wireless access.

You are asked to pay by credit card at airports.

DFW airport has wireless internet connection, but you have to pay up front using credit card. Some airports may offer free.
