Maoists threaten Kantipur journalist

KATHMANDU, June 13 - Maoist cadres have threatened Chitwan based Kantipur Publications journalist Binod Tripathi over a news report, on Maoists planning to raise Rs 50 million through 'tax', published in The Kathmandu Post and its sister publication Kantipur in their Sunday editions.
Referring to his report - Maoist to 'tax' Chitwan Rs 50m - local level Maoist cadres on cell phone had asked Tripathi why he left Chitwan. Tripathi along with journalist friends had come to Kathmandu Sunday for official work. Tripathi said that Abinash, Chitwan district secretary of the Maoists, threatened to take action against him when he returns to Chitwan.
"You do not know how to report news about an armed political force," Abinash said over the cell phone according to Tripathi. "Come back to Chitwan and we'll teach you how to do it," is how Abinash is said to have threatened Tripathi.
