dear friends,
i am in one of the bigest cities in America and studying in the university that costs me around 6000 dollars a year which is really cheap and is ok though. i can not do my desired major from this university because there is not any advance programmes.i like to do my graduation in molecular biology. however, the problem is still my impoverished economic condition. i am trying my best to make some money and study in this place but it is real hard because the job is very hard in this place , i need to work in restaurents. i heard that in texas i can get better job with the least expenses for living. so i am thinking to move to texas this fall semester and continue my study in community college. i already finished my 35 credit courses here and still i have 30 credits remained as general college credits that i can accomplish from one of the community college in texas. the main desire in me is to go to one of my dream college in oklahoma that would cost me 13000 dollars a year , after i would finish my general college credits , it gonna take 2 more years to graduate from there .if i be able to save 1300 dollar in one and half year at the most i easily afford the rest of my tution in my dream university . please help me out to decide whether i should go to texas and a new life there and save some money for 1.5 year . is it possible to get job in texas? and can i make 13000 dollar by continuing with my education in one and half year? or i should not go there - please please please i need help from people living in texas - dallas area.
thanks ,
non nepali- non usa resident.

First of all, I really commend you on your efforts to pursue your academic goals.

I dont have direct answers to your questions. What I do have is a suggestion.

Student loans! Don't hesitate to go up that alley. If you are serious about your education and at the same time very determined, loans (no matter how big they seem) can be paid off later with a proper job. College life is more than what you get in a classroom. Learn to explore all aspects of college life, and grow as a person in every aspects possible.

So, I recommend student loans. You have goals set out, I think you are already half way there to being successful. Use the loans as the means to get there. Good luck

Hey texas is know for getting shot while in work. Go for loan rather than to put your life in risk.
Didn't you hear stories of Sekhar Regmi and Prakash Koirara who lost their lives while working in a store??

Think twice!!

Amriteeeeeeee

You can't take a loan unless u have a co-signer. And that co-signer should have a US citizen or a green card holder. Besides, the person who is signing ur loan should have sound income and good credit history. Its not that easy...

You can go to Nepal and finish your bachelors and then come as a Geaduate student. You can get GA and will have more options then.

H2S,
I commend u for what u r trying 2 accomplish.

one thing is for sure... it does not matter which uni/college u go to unless u r getting into renowned one like IVY's or top 1 tier..

ani future job ko prospect.. may b first job may b difficult if u r from not known uni/college... but it does not matter .. ur own caliber.. projects and internship counts...

and keep good rapport with ur prof.. best way 2 do that.. excel in their classe. they will get u internship... and then its all u ...

once again best of luck... [ for me .. place and school is not of much importance .. that's why me saying all this... individual priorities r different.. ]

HEY HYDROGEN dont lose your hope man............I was in the same shoes as you are now 2 years ago.
out of 12 friends who came from Nepal, 6 of them went to Texas the following semester....6 of us who din't want texas are still strugglingwith our tuition but we are having a safe future but those 6 guys who left for Texas are still hanging in NORTHLAKE college not sure what to do .......yeah of course they live a "better life" working on a store.

Yeah of course dont forget SHEKHAR REGMI who was shot.........and as a matter of fact he was one unlucky guy who came a semester later than me in the same university....

Keep in mind brother.......being a student in USA is not easy......really.......!

thank you all,
now my final descision is to stay in the university where i am now , i wont go to texas. i will change my major as general biology instead of molecular biology and again i will do another major in political science , if i stay in this university i am sure to make some money also until i complete my study. now i beleive that i would be able to keep lakshmi and sarswati matas together.

very interesting discussion, indeed.
But Ivy League does not have a monopoly over all the disciplines. Check out Kent State for example. It is one of the best venues to enter into the South Asian polical/economic dynamics despite its location in a small town in Ohio.

avant garde jyu,
of course... small town setting of iowa, pa are home to schools like grinnell, lafayette (sp) and of course swarthmore. pls also do not forget bates from maine ... i believe
of course in them too and i was not trying to discard any of those prestigious schools either...

my thought is that it does not matter which school u go to. may b matters when you get ur first job. but after 5 years.. if u look back... it all depends on individual ...

and may b.. there would not be much pay difference.. either...

once again just my 2 cents

as always
