no...its not the artist......they r the best..and they tried their best......but the organizers ..n the way the show went....
'
ITS THE WORST SHOW I"VE EVER BEEN TOO.....so far in the us...
..
the organizers should at least check the sound system.n make sure the show goes smooth...when they have that amount of audience payin 25 bucks each ..........thats the least they could've done...
instead the show ended with a mixture of appreciation (solely for the artists) but more. BOOOOOOOs (solely blame the organizers).....am sure ma-ha and the others felt ashamed for how it went...
complete disaster.....completeee....
me ...my frens and all the unknown ones in the parking lot....way before the show ended.......vow to think again..n again before goin to any other shows by the same organizers..

WUT A SHAMEEEEEEE!!!!!

apparently all he knew was to announce stuff.....and forget bout another big aspect of the show......
now ..not being a hater of any kind......i...we suffered...we jus dun want anyone else to be cursing n all........after all..its our hard earned money.....

I don't see any any kind of apologies from the organizers.... What a SHAME!!!! That was a total disrespect to those great artists as well as us (audience). You guys should feel lucky tht the viewers didn't ask for their money back!!!

Mukti and The Revival is coming to dc area on august 12. I think its at the same place dc had the new years party. This will be a bomb man. I saw the flyer on dmvpartynow.com homepage. My cousin is organizing this party and he always organizes nepali band from nepal around dc area.

I heard the audience was also thin compared to the capacity of the hall. Are the MaHa duo losing their audiences by introducing sub-standard artists like Pooja Chand.

I watched MaHa at New York and the NYU"S Skirball was fantastic and state of art.

Pooja Chand did admit and announced that she failed to become a singer at Radio Nepal just before she was going to sing a duet with Prem Raja Mahat. In return PRM reinforced her statement by saying, she turned into acting when she failed in music but went on to become an actress after seeing the HEROS in the film industry.

I felt funny and sad when I was going to listen to the FAILED singer and indeed her performance brought PRM's Chadke Saalam down.

How would you grade the performace of these "FILLERS" without the comics of MaHa ?

I don’t think there were lesser audiences than the capacity of the hall. I heard that the show was sold out. Probably the organizers were trying to save some money by printing less tickets like the way they “saved” by not hiring a proper sound engineer. Eh. You know, more tickets means more printing cost. :D

It’s pointless to talk about the artists when the show was not going smoothly due to the sound system. You could see them getting distracted and the kind of mood and environment lacked through out the show. Their performance suffered, yet they pulled it off somehow.

The “fillers” were just the “fillers”. None of them were worth talking about. Frankly, Yaman needs to choose good songs and avoid Prem Raja Mahat’s compositions, when it comes to the pop songs. The kind of the songs he sings and the order of the songs matter. People were cheering at his first song and they almost slept on his second song. Pooja Chand eh... hmmm, did she really sing? :D Prem Raja? Eh... pugyo. Too much of chadke salaams. :P Kiran KC somewhat rocked the show with his okay songs and easy body movements. I was hoping to watch Pooja Chand shaking herself on a tune of some Nepali filmi song. Aaah.... She broke my heart... :D

I wonder why MaHa selected the failed singer like Pooja Chand and let her sing. She drowned and also brought PRM down. I am not criticizing her performance for the skit. It was not great but mediocre.

May be they assumed, their shadow would make artists like her bright. Most of the audience were out smoking or chatting when the singers were on the stage. Usually the finale would make all audience stand up on their feet but I did not see that on this one.

I think Madan Krishna failed to promote his son, Yaman. His jokes were better than hello hi songs and probably also should stick to writing "muktak" like he wrote when he was in third or fouth grade.

okay, i have not seen any of MAHA shows in US thus far. not that i don't like them, but i haven't got a chance, put it that way. as artists, i admire the duo. they have amazing sense of humor and sarcasm.

somehow, i don't find their "prahasan" that interesting these days. gone are the days (prior to 1990) of Panchayat era, when communication was under restriction. people felt tramatized to speak against the government. "gaijatra prahasan" and other shows used to be quite a revelation then.

nepalese politics, post 1990, has been quite transparent for most of the common people. hence MAHA's "prahasans" on politics do not hold too much significance and sense. probably that's the reason why they diverted their shows towards more social thought provoking and awareness topics as we saw in "raat" (about AIDS) and others.

just compare "gau khaane pratiyogita" first (2043 BS?) and second (2061 BS?) parts, you will see a huge difference.

amidst poliitical changes, i find them reasonably interesting nowadays, albeit not quite as spicy as they used to be.

Loote

Well,
It is true that PRM sounded same-old-same-old, Pooja had better not sang and Kiran KC and Yaman's songs were just okays but as far as the Prahasans went, I thought it was a blast. I also used to think that they won't make me laugh at this point for everybody is free to make fun of political scenario these days.
But, seriously after having seen the show in Boston, I found that MAHA have revived themselves and are now back in the game again with newfound ideas for satire. They have also been able to overcome the awkwardness they had felt in a couple of previous shows due to the break-up. Their chemistry is now just as good as those Panchayeti days. So even if the fill-ups no way manage to match with their standards, the program is worth all the eyes because of the duo. I enjoyed it fully.

Sahila.

In resonse to Himalaya178's curiosity, RP stands for Rabi and Pankaj. Rabi is Rabi Lamichhane from NTV. Pankaj is new face to me but I know this dude also lives in Baltimore area with Rabi.

As for the performance of Puja Chanda, she admitted not being singer prior to performace but was there with insistence of Prem Raja Mahat. She further apoligized in advance for any 'to be mistakes or weakness' on the performance she was goint to perform. So, it was Prem Raja's interest to have Puja on his side. So, I believe Puja demonstrated her professional honesty. I don't know Puja Chanda nor I have watched any of her movies. It was my first time of knowing who Puja is. So, I am just sharing my observation of Puja.

Overall performance of Prem Raja Mahat and Puja Chand, frankly, it was not worth of $25 entrance cost. I have listened Prem Raja's folk musics and I expected him to be great artist, but his live performance dashed all my expectation. HOWEVER, NEPALHORIZONS.COM offered Prem Raja Mahat the title of INT'L FOLK SINGER. So, My question to Nepalhorizons.com is, What takes to be int'l singer?

A observer commented that PRM was lip singing on his solo song when he wore that ethnic dress.

That's what I thought too. I said all the artists were lipsyncing but someone who knows more than me told me they were not. So, I had to keep quiet about it.

(aiyaaa sakina, bhok laagyo, tyasko baaje ko khappar... dikka laagyo udek laagyo... aiyaa... bho pugyo aaja lai yettinai!! 100+ temperature and bheja kharab on the top of that..... aiyaaa!!! Is there anything more a man can take? Phew... kyaa hua tera vaada... O kasam o irada ... Chand shifarish ke ke la la la la.... ummm, something. Okay ima log off.. eh) bye!

I went to watch the MaHa show but it was very dissapointing to say the least.

I realize there are many MaHa fans here and I don't mean any disrespect. I would just like to express my opinion about their show that I saw recently.

Not meaning to generalize, but not only MaHa, the whole Nepali Comedy front is so far behind when you consider international level comedy. MaHa's show was mostly taxi driver level childish funny. If you're a little kid or not very educated, they you'd laugh at their jokes. At times they seem to want to force the audience to laugh with their repetitious actions. Like Hari bansha bumping into others innumerous times expecting to illicit laughter. Not only action, it's sad that when the audience laughed at any statement they repeat the same thing 10 times expecting to illicit laughter each time. The standard of comedy is lacking at best. Out of the whole 2 skits, there was most likely 2 truely enjoyable and funny lines. The rest were just not funny. Maybe it just didn't hit my funny bones but personally I went back feeling like i just wasted my money on stupid humor.

I'm sorry if this offends hardcore fans who come to the show ready to laugh at anything and everything. I'm just saying it was not funny for me.

Interesting discussions and observations.

There is no doubt that the Madan Krishna and Hari Bamsha duo are the superstars of Nepal and respect their comical talents. They are simply the best in their category. Yet, I did not see their program.

We organized their show in the DC area when they were here last time and ended up with a bitter taste when it came to the settlement of the accounts. I can foresee the same with the organizers this time too. They use variety of tactics, excuses and give reasons to extract the most from the organizers. This may be the reason why they never work twice with the same organizers.

The RP Entertainment also is notorious for their strategies and techniques for force selling the tickets. Some of my relatives were forced to buy tickets for last musical show they organized, at their home, which they was of no interest to them. They never attended the program. However, this time they bought the tickets for the charitable purpose. I wonder how RP will keep the artists and the organization in the dark.

Technical Difficulties: I do not think RP Entertainment should be blamed solely for technical difficulties. This is not what they want either. I do not think they thought of saving couple hundred bucks by not hiring a sound technician and put their reputation at risk. Things do go wrong !

At least they should be commended for their efforts of organizing the cultural events pertaining to Nepal.
