Come on guys finally something interesting to thinking about in kurakani...
Many have pondered the greatest question of all time, will there ever be an anwer.. lets put our brillant Nepali minds together and suggest some theories and ideas. Here are some of the arguments or famous theories: The universe is infinite. There is no end nor a begining... Space and time only existed after the big bang( and i ask .. what was there before the big bang?). Space is expanding at the speed of light. Space is finite but curved so there are no edges or end and if you start on one point you will eventually end up where you started. Now without the involvement of religion into this subject lets shed some light in approaching the greating question of all time.

my theory is simple....

the term "infinite" is NOT well defined still. Mathematician need to define it and make it a number which can be expressed, measured and perceived in one's mind. Once we can achieve this, precise age of universe can be determined.

nothing IS infinite.

Mr. bidhan40 - What made you think about chicken or egg. Why didn't your brilliant mind make you think who came first - your ancient father or ancient mother ?

well donald duck at least i have a brain that my ancient father and mother must have came in same time otherwise how civilisation would have started if they were born in wrong time.

What was there before the big band? I think that question is irrelevant as of today. That is like asking a person how to bring up a child when you don't even know about sex. We don't know what was there before the big bang and no one knows. Even if there were events before the big bang, it would not have effected what happened after it. Big bang marks a beginning of a new age. Space is expanding at the speed of light? Didn't know that!! What happens after big bang? Big crunch....
Dude, I'm just an Accounting/ Econ major. If the Math and science genuises like Newton, Einstine, Heisenberg and Hawkings couldn't solve the puzzle, what do I know?

Nepaliballer,

As time started when the big bang occured, you cant say what was before it.
Because for the concept of "Before" to exixt, you need to have time and time exixts only when there are events.

This takes a little bit of exercisse to understand and to accept because your mind is full of prejudices and the so called truths that you have acquired form the perception of the present state of the universe and your own interpretations.

Have you guys heard of the multiverse (many universe). I don't think it will be solved in near future or so. May be I sound dherai pichadiyeko haina, tara what i think is there must be something, some omnipresence, omnipotent thing that has to do everything with this. Everytime mankind reaches closer to the answer, it gets unsolvable. Have you guys realized that?
We were thinking that the quark are the smallest object, now there is string theory. Our analogy of the universe is similar. We try to get the answer, and the answer gets more complicated. I don't think we will ever be able to reach the smallest thing (string as known to us) and the largest thing (universe as known to us). What do you guys say?

Yes. The good news is that the end is not near. Imagine how many zeros are there in trillion years. The bad news is that when it does come, it's not going to be pretty.

I don't know which theory is more accurate in predicting the unknown unknowns, but I like the "Dark Energy" theory which seems to be consistent with "Big Bang" theory.

"The universe will die. The sun and other stars like it will throw out heat until they have no more energy to burn. The big bang threw everything outwards at a massive rate. As it gets bigger, so the gaps between matter get bigger and are filled with "dark energy". Instead of gravity pulling everything back down to a "big crunch" the dark energy accelerates the expansion process, pushing everything further apart faster and faster. In the end everything will be a cold, sad, blackness as the stars all go out, or are too far apart for us to see anything - but "us" will be long gone. "

Let me give credits to US Defense Secretary Rumsfield before anyone accuses me of
stealing the word - "unknown unknowns"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

basic theory: energy is neither created, nor destroyed. If we believe it to be true, then it seems there must be something to trigger the big bang in the first place. If it was the energy that tiggered the big bang then the energy must have come from somewhere. I think that's why the universe seems to be circular, because there seems to be no end or beginning. Like thoughts in our minds that has no end.....

The_illusionist,
It seems that that theory is telling us one thing for sure, the universe will be cold enough and dark, but that doesn't mean the universe will not exist. We are talking about the existence of the universe here (not whether it will be cold or dark). Something being dark doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Let say, the universe will accelerate faster and scatter all over the place (but where? where it will go?)
About the big bang, where was that mass (the ball) that explode before it actually exploded. We always talk about relativity, what was the relative location of that mass?
I think the problem with our assumption is that we always think that the universe is round and has 4-5 dimension and is expanding, may be our assumption is wrong? May be the stars in the galaxies are moving further (not the universe). The string theory says that the string has 11 dimension (the smallest particle that require a particle accelerator as big as the milkyway galaxy to view it), and we assume that the biggest thing is 4 dimensional (its funny).
To me it seems that the universe will always be a mystery to human. Everyday we explore more, it grows more. Nature is the ultimate winner.

Gajedi,

I wish I was an Astrophysicist or an Astronomer to be able to answer your intelligent qsns.

I think it's a question of philosophy rather than science. Ofcourse, the ealiest scientists were philosophers. If we look at today's science, it looks quite complex with strings, quarks and what not. But if we look at the science that is already discovered, we'll be looking at the prejudiced one, like said by kapuri_kha.

Somethings are good if it is left in the hands of god!! Humanmind is incapable to solve this ...what is after what ???the question it took us serious 200 years , to find about solarsystem in our galaxy, milkyway.
BUT we know there are millions of solar system in our galaxy and billions of galaxy in Universe.. just try to find out what is where... this is just trust ..trust in GOD..an infinite power..an infinite source of energy..which keeps everything moving in order..and our life goes on..
our solarsystem is just a dot in universe!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything was a singularity. A point, a single point of time where it all of a sudden burst with massive energy shredding hydrogen gases that ultimated heated up with its supermassive blackhole in the middle to form stars and planets. That was the explanation. But the idea that it burst by itself is not physics so now its the theory that there were two string shaped universe parallel to each other that where roaming around when they suddenly met with a big bang throwing off massive amount of energy into space.

The theory of Parallel Universe with 11 dimensions and what is now widely regarded as "M Theory", although nobody knows what M stands for, is more of a science fiction than a contemporary modern day science. The idea that you could crack a hole on the fabric of space is a fascinating assumption which if accomplished would be a breathrough in Science. But except for the monster black hole that lurks accross in deep space which stops physics at its very core, nothing has ever disbandled the very fabric where time and space halts. But is string theory the "theory of everything"? Are we living in a parallel universe where there could be many more universes around? These are the questions haunting physicists at the moment. While we may never know, we can certainly be fascinated by the great scientific discovery of our time.
