A funny and stupid thing to many western people but it still happens in the remote corners of Nepal. Some Nepalese women reportedly stripped themselves in the night and plowed the field to please the god of rain, Indra, in the Terai region of Nepal. The southern part of Nepal has been suffering from drought lately and the farmers are desperate for rain. Citing that every other attempt to please the rain-god failed, these women resorted to stripping themselves to please the rain-god.

This seems really weird on our part. We have not been able to educate people even about simple things like how rainfall occurs. Many Nepalese still believe that it is the grace of rain-god Indra that we get rain in the summer. When are we going to educate these masses? When is the government going to realize the enormous importance of education on the daily lives of people? Had these people been aware of the fact that rainfall is not the product of kindness of anybody, they would not have stripped off. Sadly, the reality is quite different.

Even more appaling is the fact that such news gets into the international news sources like Reuters. While it may be a news of interest to many people from around the world, it is a shame that we still believe in such sh*t. Most of us live in the cities and we do not feel the importance of education as such because it is granted for us. However, these folks who live in villages around the rural parts of Nepal are still ignorant about basics of environmental fluctuations.

So, what would be the best option to avoid such an ignorant act? Any suggestions are welcome.

Based on the news from Reuters.
