Ok, i am not a movie critic or fan for that matter by any stretch of imagination and I do know Departed is merely an american remake of a hong kong movie "internal affairs" or something like that, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie contrast to my twisted taste in movies of recent times :).
I think it was the script that made the movie flow so well. For the first time, I saw DiCaprio transform in
Titanic proportion in his acting to overshadow a caliber of an actor like Matt Damon. Jack Nicholson was in his league, just in time before the resurgence of his beloved lakers this time ;). I think the most enjoyable was the comical roles of wahlberg and Baldwin. Today we spent half the day going and regoing over some of the quotes from the movie despite there are reportedly 226 accounts of the most beloved word F***.... (of course, u'd have to see the movie to really enjoy those in context)
Costello [shoots a woman at a point blank range and she goes down]: She fell funny!
Dignam and Ellerby [briefing a meeting with FBI and agents]
Ellerby: Go f*** yourself!
Dignam: I am tired of F****** your wife.
Ellerby: How is your mother?
Dignam: She's tired from F***** my father!
[Dignam leaves]
Ellerby[to the audience]: Usually he's not that bad!
chief: do you have an informant in your unit!
Dignam: Maybe, Maybe not! maybe go f*** yourself!
And the classic!
Cameraman: Who the F*** are you?
Dignam: I am the man who does his job. You must be the other one!!
