you have to go to the embassy or consulate there. [not the port of entry.]
days does not matter you can get there and return on the same day.

go to place you have not been to (O: company ko expense ma travel garne ta ho ni ...

my personal opinion,
i found vancouver and montreal to be on expensive side.
where as ottawa, and toronto on the cheaper side.

Remeber that you need to get Canadian VISA too (O:

Swetaa, if you are close to canadian counsulate office than just go there with your h1b approval notice, appointment letter of US consulate from canada ( you will get this online once you take appointment ) and employer letter this is good enough to get canadian visa. but if live far away from canadian consulate than you have mail it with required fee $85 for single entry and $135 for multiple entry.
In calgary they give h1b visa in same day. But make sure your name does not match with other people in US. If it match than they will do background chek which may take 3-4 weeks.

I did this in toronto about a month ago.
If approved they will give you the VISA NEXT day 3 PM. There may be other places which give same day visa but not TORONTO.

For the canadian visa to go to canada, go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/offices/missions.html
and see the timings of the consulate which are different for different consulates.. this you'll get the same day if you visit in person.. or else upto a month if done through mail.

Swetaa,, Why not you go to nepal for H1-b visa stamp? as far as i know,,(since i am also in h1b status) the stamping rate from canada is very low, it means the risk of denying your h1b stamping is very high there. but in nepal ,,the probability of getting stamp is almost 95%. till now,,3 guys,,friends of mine, are rejected from nepal too.so,,it is very wise to go to nepal and get stamp with 95% confidence rather than go to canada with 25% confidence.
but if you have your own problem that dont let you go nepal,,then its upto you.
best of luck swetaa!

hushpuppy,,there is no time frame,,once you receive your approval notice,,you can fly. you need to have your paystub,,job offer letter from your company, showing the position you are currently holding, and responsibility,, your US college degree....thats it,,and a little smile on face ,,obviously...bood luck man.

I don't know what facts bhusanb is looking at. I just went and got my H1 stamped from Canda today. It was piece of cake. If you have all the documents, the DS 156 and DS175, your H1 approval notice, Passport, Paystub, jobletter. You will get it.

Regarding H1b stamping in Nepal,do we need to submit W2 and tax return document while applying for H1b stamp.Does the Embassy just do a back ground check for any crime or felony or will they also check whether the applicant had woked off campus during F1(as it is also a violation of status).I am little concerned as I am going to nepal for stamping.I have worked off campus using my SS while on F1.
What do you think is the average no. of days for appointment after applying during this time of the year?
Thanks
