I have been reading news about the Political situation in Nepal. Dumb Nepalese, Clever politicians and lots and lots of international focus.
In all these one name stands out who seem to be desparate to do something, good or bad. Since the starting of Maoist revolution, US has been critical of it. Of course in the course they bombed the US Culture center and all. US has taken their focus solely on the Maoists. Declared them terrorists. Then came Janaandola II, Moriarty made statement saying that king could be fleeing nepali holding a helicopter. That statement made headlines.
If we analyze the assignment of Moriarty in Nepal, he is embassador of US. He has to compete with India, UK and China to present US as one of the most influencial Nation in Nepal. Time and again he has failed. India, i think, committed a couple of mistakes, but it corrected itself after realizing the present scenario of Nepal. It scrapped the two Pillar theory, it realized that keeping nepal poor hurts india as there is so much interrelated issues between india and nepal. India till now has still remained the most influencial Nation till nepal. Everytime some Envoy comes to nepal, the result can be seen. But Moriarty on the other hand, has been trying to play the game in a different way. He has been trying to influence the Palace, the Army and the politicians just to keep the Maoists away. I am not too sure what his intent about the Monarchy is.
Being an embassador one should know that you could represent your country to certain extent. He has been so directly involved with the politics of nepal that it is hurting the image of his country. It is time he has to realize that the game is over for him, no body listens to him any more, chinese embassy has more influence being mum than him travelling to all the army barracks and meeting the generals.
I have always wanted to know what stake does he have in nepal that he has vested so much of his time and influence, yet got kicked hard every time. What does he want to do in Nepal? What will he gain if he is successful in saving the King, get another Saddam Huessein and Uday Hussein? It is he who will have to act again to take them out.
I dont see any other ambassador being so active, and loosing so bad. Indians, the smartest of all, hold the key. He should understand that. He should act in influncing all to break that relation with india rather than what he is doing today. The best I can see is GP Koira declaring NC not to Join the Republican Front.
Moriarty, you are better off being ambassador to China or other North Korea than Nepal.
