I just had my pp renewed by Nepal Embassy in DC recently. Eventhough the embassy website claims you will get your pp in 2 weeks, don't count on it unless you have someone who you know there who can expedie it (no surprise!). If you are a common folk like me, at least give them 4 to 6 weeks. As for someone picking up the phone, it is like hitting a lotto;
sometimes you are lucky, many times you are not. As for getting an answer, do not count on it, because you get either 'hakim' is not here or call back tomorrow. By the way it seems they do not keep logs of passports or are too 'busy' to check them properly. Bottomline.. give them plently of time and they will get it done later than sooner.

Spearhead, go visit the following link. The new passport has a validation for 10 years.

Yes, the time may vary. If it's urgent you can always inform them.
Good Luck!

I got my passport renewed from DC Embassy too and it was hassel free. They have the form and all the required document in their website. I filled it out, included the fee and my old passport and I had my new passport within a month (I am not sure exactly how long it too..it was done a while ago, but it was not a long wait for sure). There were no errors and no lost documents. I dont think you have anything to worry about if you follow the instructions well.

Although it says 2 weeks for processing , It took more than 1.5 months to get my passport. I did not feel they are ignorant but you might need a lots of patience to wait. And dont get surprised if you do not know exact status of your passport when you inquiry. I had to call 5-6 times and everytime I got answer - your passport is ready it will be sent soon.
