A couple of days ago, an indian classmate of mine asked if there was anti-indian sentiment in Nepal. I was taken back by his question. The question came out of the blue as we were discussing some Hindi movies. But after a pause, i had to affirm.
I have always asked this question to myself as I have seen it, the resentment or hate or whatever u may call it, amongst my friends, among my family, and now i would ask all you bloggers as to why do so many of us resent india so much? why do we blame them for so many of our misfortunes? Where does this hate come from and why do we refer to them as "dhotis?" Is it our inferiority complex? if not, how can we justify this hate?

well,
i guess the abhorrence came out of sheer ignorance or failure (denial) in our part to accept the facts. india are racing to the top of the world. within the last few years, their economy has sky rocketted in terms of prosperity. we, nepalese, are left behind and we have only ourselves to blame!

we imitate western culture, the so-called hip culture and others infulence our society first then others. we wear trendy clothes, spend 6000 rupees for a pair of shoes when we hardly know how much sweat one has to put in to earn a penny. in other words, we have a habit to take things for granted.

we think terai is a part of india/bihar and that madhesis are marsya, madise, dhoti and so on. we don't know where we belong to. we have a king in our nation who is revered as a demi god, and we think we all are kings in our own rights!

there are good people and there are moderate to bad people in every society. just because some indians treat nepali as slaves (bahadurs) dont make the whole community bad. we need to come out of this prejudice and do something on our own which can leave mark in the world, let alone india. we've got to believe in our ability and suppress our ego for the betterment.

if you hate india, direct your hatred towards a positive direction to achieve something and prove to them. don't just hate someone for the sake of hating!

we've got to learn to respect ourselves and stop copying others. we have enough reasons to be proud of if we work hard to reach the pinnacle.

We dont hate Indians. We hate the fact that we are assumed to be Indians by any passing person. Even if you meet another Indian, and you tell them that you are from Nepal, they conversate in Hindi, assuming that you know the language. That is irritating. Moreover, when they talk to you, they refer to everyone from the region as, DESIs- we are not DESIs, we are Gorkhalis, and even when explained, they say "array yaar! wahi to baat hai". This makes me want to strangle them.

I hope this answers your questions.

I dont know about any other thing, but the reason i hate Indians are pretty much same reason Americans hate Mexicans. There seems to be more and more Indians in nepal. When i was in nepal fruits sold by indians, fish, sold by indians, clothes and shoe stores indian owners, etc. these things sorta looks like as if India is really taking over nepal. The worst thing is Girja is indian and listens to the indian government. One more thing that also makes me mad is how nepal is dependent on india. Its not really india's fault but you know it just pisses me off. I think China would be lot better help to Nepal than india.

devil,
how do u know for sure that those fruit-sellers, store-keepers are indians and not madhesis?
and how can china be a better neighbor than india, if we don't change ourselves? don't u think so?

Devil,
If you had seen Chinese people in Nepal from the beginning, you would've hated them instead and would've wished that Indian were there instead of Chinese..it's human nature..najik ko deuta hela bhanchan ni..
I've come across many Indians who are wonderful and many Indians who are not..so cannot generalize :)

I don't know if I hate them, but I dislike many things about them.

I was watching this movie "Bastab" recently and I happened to come across a dialogue where they ridicule Nepal by saying that it is the country of guards. While India constitutes many good, intelligent people, India itself has a bad eye towards Nepal. For that reason, our land, like Kalapani, has been victimized. There are still many, many Indians who dare to say Gautam Buddha was born in India. What is more, it is in one of their text books in school.

For these few and for many other reasons, I dislike and sometimes hate their attitude towards Nepal and its other neighbors.

All the Indians should be sent to Nazi-era Concentration Camps in eastern Europe and Germany where they will become subjects of scientific studies on live humans.

The scientific data and new discoveries can be utilized for future medical and scientific usage.

I guess many people just hate them because it's natural to hate bigger State by the general public of the smaller state.
however, it's not the dhotis we hate we just hate the dhoti policies, which translates into hate in general. I think everybody know Nepal needs friendly relation with India, most of the hypocrites still watch Hindi Movies, they love to talk to Indians in Hindi. We generally share the same culture.
By the way, even Indians itself don't like each other forget about others.

The hard facts:

India is a home to highest number of Nepali immigrants.
India is responsible for majority of Infrasturctures in Nepal.
Indian Aid covers most of our national budget.

India influences Political, Economical, entertainment sectors.
India is consistantly on the prowl of landgrab.
India uses our men at war and abuses our women in bed.

Now, we can't live with or without India. So far we just feel unfortunate to be alongside India.

Military invasion is not practical in these days to colonize the country these day, it's too expensive and risky. It's rather safe if you destablize the country, make them weak, make them run to you for help, then you hold the bargaining chip. You obligate that country to influence their policy. Then if you influence their policy in a effective way, you colonize that country. That's what happening in Nepal right now. India played a big part to destablize our country ever since Chandra Shekhar came to Nepal in early 90's.

I guess its time for new revolution against opression from the South of the border.

no alright you guys are not getting me. I dont think China is better than India and vise versa I just think that Chinese people are more trustable (if thats even a word). You know they do what they promise. And i have never heard of anything India has physically done to develop our country. Loote bro i am not blaming India for what our country is. It the politicians of our country who is screwing the people. I am just saying we would be better off trading and doing other things with China and not India. But what i dont get is, now this is not research its just word of mouth i guess, there are foreign nations who would invest in nepal so why doesnt nepal say ok and help us. I dont see india doing anything to improve nepal and in the future they wont do anything. Its just talk with them but nations such as China and Japan keep their word. This is what i am saying. And about shutting the border i support that 100 % i know nepal will eventually end up being rich or developed country and so will India no doubt about that but i am pretty damn sure the wealth india creates will not be distributed evenly and when nepal does get developed the districts which will be poor in India the people there will start pouring in (Just like mexico) and i dont want that. Thats all i am saying.
peace
