gujri hui dilchaspiyaan
beetay huey din aish ke
bantey hein shamma-e zindagi
aur daaltey hein roshni
merey dil-e sad cha-hak par
~

often, in the solitude of night,
moments before the call of sleep,
my desires have faded
and the bygone days of ease
burn as the flame of my life
and cast their uncertain light
