Hey Guys,
I just wanted to reach out to you guys and get some idea about the H1 visa issue in '07.
As most of you guys are aware a lot of students were not able to get their H1B applied in '06 as the quota was exceeded. So most of the students who graduated last year are working on OPT in hope of getting the H1 applied and approved in '07.

Assuming that H1 is applied by April / May time frame, OPT expires in end of May/ early June. If H1 is approved the person cannot start the job untill Oct.
So, I was wondering what options are open for these individuals for 3 months?

I know we had several threads about it and lot talked about taking summer classes. However, with that said, the individual is not able to work during that time.

Anyone with options / ideas about this time frame..

thanks in advance!

There are couple of options to deal with these issues:

1) Get admitted into college( community college or Kaplan College) and get I-20 and be in a F1 status until your h1 get started...Most of the people opt for this
2) If you have not used your grace period(60 days),you can be legal for 60 more days...and after that apply for tourist VISA for couple of months...by the time your extension of VISA expires, you will have your H1 in hand...

But apply on 1st day of April, otherwise your effective date of H1 may be late..

Thanks Nanu,
I was reading some thread and Saja user 'BhaskarNJ' was saying that enrolling in Kaplan does not count and should avoid it... I know before you could take GMAT, GRE prep cources (even CPA, CFA prep courses) and maintain F1 status..
but they seem to be more strict now...
any thoughts...

thanks,

There won't be any problem if you have valid I-20.If kaplan issues I-20,that works.(I-20 is legal document from department of Justice)

Nice Thread.. Guys i m in a same situation and need some advice. I am currently working now and my employer offered to apply for H1B on April 1st. My Opt expires in June. I will have 3 month+ gap of unemployment. If i could obtain my F1 status and obtain CPT (that will allow me to work part time), my employer will agree to continue my employment as parttime. Sajha Users, can you please give me some insight on if I can obtain F1 status and be able to work parttime as well. Also, can u tell me more abt that Kaplan course .. what type and cost?

Any advice is appreciated.
