Dude,
The easiest solution for you is to do a "System restore" to some previous date that you were sure you had that file.
Start -- Programs -- Accesories --- System Tools -- System Restore

Then pick a previous date and hit OK. Your machine will be restored to the way it was on that particular date.

** Note: If you have added/saved any new programs/files after the date you are restoring to, make sure you back them up somewhere cuz you WILL lose them.

Peace

There are some "recovery" softwares easily available for free. You can google, they are less than 1 Mb size.

Before any of the steps show below, if you remember the document's name...
View all files that you can in Temporary folder. Temporary of C drive. not temporary of Internet Explorer. Make sure you select "SHOW hidden files" as well.

if you still cant find it...

Find FTK, forensic tool kit. Google, download demo.
find FTK imager, download demo

scan your HD with IMAGER, look for
+Partion
- All Users
- Recycler
- SSID if you have one account in your computer, you should have one SSID.
- Look for file named DC if its C drive. and look for numbered files like DC1 DC2, go through each, find the file, export to your computer drive. Open with MS word.

If you can't find, look under "UNALLOCATED FOLDER"
OR TEMP FILE

I could help you if you'd owe me a dinner!! Helping you and owing you a dinner might not be a smart idea born_to_rule ;)
Anyways, I'd use one of those Forensic tools as suggested by redstone, and let that application do its job; I'd sit back, relax, watch it running, and at would at least type few words of gratitude to the guys that tried to help you by suggesting the ways to deal with that nightmare. Wouldn't you?

Use this tool, it does a job. You can recover if you have deleted files and emptied the recycle bin

http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlrestoration.html

and it is free.

Born, i don't think you did it right or complete. I do that shit all the time, or do Forensics on Hard Disks, and i am able to retrive most of the deleted stuff, even if you damage your HD. Impossibilities with certain limitations are when you burn them or break 'em into tiny little pieces then burn'em.
if not, you should be able to get all them back.
