In my opinion, Chemistry is a good field to go into.

Since degrees from Nepal are not recognized here in the US, most likely, he will have to join an undergraduate program first. I am sure lot, if not most, of his credits will be transferred.

Some graduate programs might accept him directly, if he has good GPA, GRE and recommendations, but might also require him to take some remedial courses to bring him up to par with American graduates.

PhD program in a reputed university is always a great option. Mind you, there are many sub-divisions within Chemistry - Physical, Organic, Inorganic, Analytical, etc. Depending on one's interest, advisor, school, etc. he should make a careful choice.

After getting the doctorate, he will have the option of joining the academia or the industry. Either is fine, but you make more money in the latter.

Hope this helps.
