Addressing the inaugural session of the general assembly of the Federation of the Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) that began in Mahendranagar today, Nemwang said journalists have an important role to play in the next few years to implement the formulas developed by the parties for massive changes in Nepal's socio-economic and political sectors.
He said, like during the Jana Andolan II, the journalists must act responsibly to hold the election to the constituent assembly.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, extending good wishes to the general assembly of the FNJ, have praised the role played by the media during the democratic struggle. They said the contribution of the Nepalese journalists for restoration of democracy is inspiring to media people worldwide.
Alongside the general assembly, the FNJ would also hold the national conference on media freedom and restructuring of the media sector in the changed political context. The three-day national meet of the journalists will also amend the constitution of the FNJ to make it more democratic and inclusive.
More than 1,000 journalists from around the country are participating in the conference. nepalnews.com ia Dec 21 06
