ALL POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS AFTER INTERIM GOVT: DPM SERCHAN
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, Dec 23 - Deputy Prime Minister Amik Serchan said Saturday that THE SEVEN-PARTY ALLIANCE GOVERNMENT AND THE CPN-MAOIST HAD AGREED ON NOT MAKING ANY APPOINTMENTS UNTIL THE FORMATION OF THE INTERIM GOVERNMENT.
Talking to Kantipur Television, DPM Serchan said that the two sides agreed that the interim government, which includes CPN-M, would make decisions on any issue of national interest.
Serchan's statement comes on the back of the Maoists withdrawing their planned nationwide two-day banda (general strike) announced in protest of the government's recent decision to nominate foreign ambassadors. The Maoists withdrew their December 31 and January 1 strike after the government assured them that no decisions will be made without consulting the party.
"The government has reached understanding with the CPN-M to decide all issues, including the appointment of the ambassadors, after the formation of the interim government," said Serchan.
He added, the government and the Maoists are univocal in resolving all issues of national interest through dialogue.
The government on Friday assured the Maoists that it "won't restore police posts and won't make any political appointments until the Maoists joined the interim government" but couldn't clearly say whether or not it would withdraw the recently nominated names for ambassadors.
