with this thread I just want to put my opinion why we are among the poorest country in the world.

1.we belive in principle of idleness(not idealness)- Most of the Nepalese dont want to work and always look for the opportunity where we dont need to work . For every small reasons we have practice of doing strikes. we feel proud to participate in Nepal bandh, chakka jaam, bazaar bandh. But honestly speaking 95%of such participants have nothing to do for the reason why they are doing strike .Strikes are excuse to do work , to make wahiyaat chat, and to use it as entertainment .there are many other ways to do protest. why we only go for bandh. who has loss from these activities. I speculate from one day strike Nepalese people are going to loose in millions. If such activities are not abandoned , even after 50 years we will be proud to sit down somewhere doing strike and keeping our head straight bosting that we are no 1 poor country in the world.

2. Racism-we are not ready to accept our fellow Nepalese as part of system. why we are not considering Nepalese from different part of country as citizens of Nepal. The population of any nation constitute of different types of people from different ethnic and cultural group. why we are more skeptical about this issue. why we are more concerned about Newar from kathmandu, bahun from some place , madhesi from other place. are they not Nepalese. why we call madhesi dhoti and assume them as indian. People from different community has different way of living. why we are more concerned about it. Have they done any harm to us.why we have antimadhesi ,anti newar ,antibahun or anti marwadi feelings.Believe me if you will keep antiethnic feeling for some ethnic group , the other group will start it .it will come by itself.in any caste there are some bad people. But we cannot assume the whole group to be bad . It all depends upon individual who may belong to any part or group.so unless we are ready to respect ourself we are not going to improve in anyway.

3.election of political leaders- we always choose the wrong political leaders. If we peep inside our leaders history most of them had all the good lakchan( all 36 gan match to most of our leaders) during their college life or afterwards.I am proud to say that most of them were gundas , drug addict, chor, failure in their education line , prostitue hunter .....the list is very long. why we only choose such leaders. everytime we are fooled by these people and again we choose the similar people.I think the ignorance and illiteracy may be the main reason. most of we nepalese like the people who can give false aaswasan that we will do this and that and finally does nothing except fulfilling his or her own pockets. The other thing may be most of us want to take benefit of our position if we can and those who are not taking benefit are because they are not in situation to take benefit.where is idealism, where is principle of leaving where is patriotism.

4. In our country rules are nothing. No one is afraid of doing anything.when we see the system in country like USA nad europe , every person is afraid of doing even small crimes. I will not say that there is no crimes in these country but majority of people are afraid of the system. But majority of the people in our country gives damn to the law.so unless we make strict laws wheer everyone is bound to work under it we are not going to change. When u will see even within 1 month , most of the professional group or general people either they r doctors, lawyer drivers businessman or from any sector they have done strike for nonsense reasons. why people are not afraid of beating a doctor , or doctor not doing his duty , or driver killing a kid taking his vehicle back again or people doing strike in the road. Because our country is country without law.Unless we are afraid of doing wrong things we will keep taking bribes, use our working hrs as entertainment for strikes or something else.

There are lots more to put insight on ...............

hey bro,
we have been doing the similar reality check for a long time. What you have posted above, be it research or otherwise your personal experience, is not rocket science. We all grew up with that. What would be real "rocket science" is if you can put forth reasonable and sustainable solutions to those problems.

Common now, every commoner Nepali knows what the problem is. Blaming game has been our favourite hobby since eternity. When will we start becoming accountable for our part and stop pointing fingers to each other is the real test! Of course! but then we don't even have a single consensus about a single thing about our country :)

First of alll we have to accept the fact . we should think within ourself why we are behind. Insight is very important .It is ridiculous to blame other country or people for our failure.when we accept our fault and then use our brain and attitude to make change , we can proceed toward the right path. In other string there is hot discussion going on why we should give representative to some different ethnic group in nepal. I believe that in sajha most of the participants are educated Nepali and we can predict the mentality and attitude of Majority of Nepalese.I am not pointing my fingers towards other but pointing my fingers to myself, a Nepali.let us start from this place to give respect to other fellow nepali.at least we can do that right.

You have skillfully generalize but I have seen there are many people who are involve in tiny tasks to make a difference and I strongly agree with your point of view too.

Honesty, respect, responsibility, commitment these are the few disciplines which comes person's within. As we are distant to the puritanism; I hardly see any good recovery within our community or in the country.

Let us start something good from here. let us join our hands( all Nepalese from all part of our country ) and appreciate other positive points rather than commenting on the negative aspects.when we will respect others other will respect us.

What a very contradiction! Do you know what you have done: you just preached a certain position and hardly heard an alternative argument. Dare to hear.
By the way.

harvard, first of all, i whole heartedly agree with point no. 2 about racism and acceptance that you have raised. however, rest of the points are debatable. yes current events u have mentioned there ( strikes, poverty, political incompetence, lack of law and order) are true tara i am not sure about the reasonings that u have used to justify these findings. for instance, you are saying nepalis live in the principle of idleness and blame the unending and fustrating strikes, hool-danga to the principle. i have to disagree with the point. people are in the street because of lack of opportunities."strikes are excuse to do work" where is the work.those who are working hate strikes. when people are corned for too long and thier standard of lives decreases for too long, people get agitated. manche lai 2 meal khana garo hucha. hami previleged lai kina hool-danga gareko ho bhannera question garnu paani normal nai ho. you are in bidesh it seems by looking at your agruements.and that is fine, nothing worng with that. tara dherai kura yaha le aafani vantage point le lekhnu bhayeko jasto lagyo.
number 3 ko kura k garne.. tara democratic system nepal ma uninturrupted kaha chalekocha ra? way back then mahendra took over..... ahile we had this unrest.. post 1990, Nepal under democratic system was seening better economic growth, and all the indicators like health and education were getting better, nothing to write home about, but better than in previous years. i believe that this system has a self-correcting mechanism as long as the country is stable. look at all the developed countries and some developing ones like india.. they also had political turmoil and currupt leaders.. tara system did prevail. iam sure nepali people are not that stupid.. ek choti - due choti- 3 choti tara harek time neta ko jhuto ashwasan ma nepali haru faschan jasto malae lagdaina.. surely netas have to get their act together that is for sure.. system paani aali matured bhanye pachi sayed we will see better netas..hope so!
last point.. harvard you said we need strict laws.. what do u want? yes we don't have enough laws regarding pollution or foreign currency trading or say equal rights; tara laws nabhayeko haina ni.. there is not enough enforcement of the laws.. laws exist but they are not being properly enforced. accountibility ma kaami cha..
la you have given you points.. that is the way to go.. yo kura haru practicema paani lyauna paaye hunthiyo.. ahile ta kura matrai cha.. ra kura garna jaruri paani cha.. appreciate ur post harvard despite some disagreements.
