I just read one of these new articles in ekantipur and found out that US is yet to drop the terrorist tag on the Maoists.
Was wondering how you all think abt the US opinion?
As for myself Maoists did force themslves into the political mainstream with weapons. They still maybe terrorists having a major say in the Government but it would not at all be good for the peace of the country to openly tag them as terrorists.

they are still terrorists because they are still troubling people elsewhere in Nepal...recently a father and son was beaten by maoists for refusing to give them food..............they have yet to leave some police posts that they hijacked......they padlock hydel........because the students refused to pay the maoists ransom money(HAPTA)...........................Cadres are eating in restaurants and not paying the bill just claiming that they are maoists...........(LAAL SALAAM CAMRADE).........The maoists are catering to the rich as they get ransom to help them smuggle things in and out of the country........they assist the rich to capture land instead of the poor.......they are stopping the police and abusing authority they have not given up their arms which was purchased with ,loot money,terror money, blood money,extorted money.........and donation money from other terrorist organization...............They still walk around with the power trip and their leaders dont controll or have lost command and intrest on their poor villagers, students,kids,etc....well now all the big leaders of maoists are one step closer to the total destruction of Nepal..........the peoples republic of Nepal..........will be excatly like thye peoples republic of North Korea & China, where you are told what to do, think, eat and drink................there can never be a democratic communisim....isnt that what you all want..????aint happening.....you cant expect to run a controlled equality government side by side with a free society............I smell corruption already............. .and USA is aware of that..........

So, if we go by that definition, Maosists are terrorists.....Terror......haven't tehy caused a lot of terror in Nepal already??? and still doing it??? If so, they are Terrorists, period.

They were thugs, they are cheaters and they have yet to become terrorists. I am sure you will start to see their real terrorism.

The general mass of the Maoists, I feel, are more of a disillusioned crowd. I would'nt label them as terrorists because causing widespread chaos is not their primary goal although they might have unwillingly acheived it. They are struggling to be recognized, struggling for a piece of pie that the so called democracy was giving out to all nepalis. All Nepalis in the Kathmandu valley that is. The problem, as I see, arose from the fact that our economy was just centered in and around Kathmandu. Kathmandu was (and still is) almost equivalent and representational of all economic Nepal. The roots of their anger originate from our corrupt government officials. The system would have worked just fine had it not been for these a$$holes. And their corruption lies in the fact that they have lost love and respect for their fellow nepali brothers and sisters. The Maoists just wanted to have a fair share. And this reaction ignited the flames of communism deep inside these tortured and ignored hearts.
We cannot, in this case, fight fire with fire. We cannot fight them and expect to win. The only way to diffuse this situation would be to include *other parts of Nepal* formally into the economy hence raising life standards.
On the other hand, if Nepal does become communist, we are going to have to learn a lesson already learnt by the Soviets. It does not work.
We can't be angry and pissed that "they fked things up, they killed so and so". Yes sh*t has happened, we gotta learn to forgive and heal our countrymens' fragmented hearts and help them bear their burden instead of increasing it.

That being said, if those rebelling behind the mask of the maoist with intentions against their propaganda, have vile thoughts of corruption, we must stop that evil. HOw do you bring down those bunch of cadres by what means available. Is it possible ? there is a limit of compromise and nepalese mainstream politics has already done whatever they could do. Now, its the maoist own problem to bring them down and show the world that they are not exerting coercion to the innocent people, by definition not acting terrorist. otherwise, they are still terrorist.

If that hotel owner/restaurant owner was like me, I'd trick those rascals, kidnap them, hang em upside down for a couple of nights and throw em in sacks behind a truck to Bihar and just desert them there. They'd be perfectly at home then.
