Very bad incident happened with my friend's family otherday.
He received a phone call on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, from his family in Kathmandu, Nepal. He was informed that 10-12 armed men in total head masks entered into his home compound on that day arround 2pm in the afternoon and proceeded to tie up his two employees and lock them in a room.
These armed men then found his mother, who was alone at the time. She was brutally beaten and her life was threatened with guns and Nepali Khukuris (a large machete-type knife). His mom pleaded for her life stating that these armed men were like her sons, and she like their mother, and that she was a devotee of Guru Sai-Baba. They proceeded to drag his mother by the hair upstairs where they slapped and kicked her and proceeded to tie her up.
The armed men then cut off all the telephone lines. They ransacked all the safe boxes, closets and rooms and robbed anything of value in his family home including jewelry, currency, ornaments, etc. and destroying anything they could not take. These looters were related with gangsters, maoist and police all.
Thesedays things are not good in Nepal. Looting,Kidnaping and robbery are highly progression. There is not any public safty at all. Everyday there are more than half a dozen such bad incident happens and they target mostly local people and we are highly victimised. It is very very hard to tolorate. My dear friends, we should not keep quiet. Otherday it happend to your neighbour & relatives , today it happend to me and tomorrow it could happen to you.

Thesedays people are celebrating the peace process in politics as if the union of prachanda and girija is going to solve everything.

The reality of the situation is that noone is safe thesedays. I have heard many stories like above and it is increasingly becoming unsafe as far as armed robbery is concerned. It's a scary to have to worry constanty in the back of your head if your house is the one that's going to be targeted tonight.

Definitely the security situation is bleak in Nepal.

But -'Why are people scared in the first place' ? - what are people hiding in their home, i hear millions in cash , gold; . I don't think that sort of money is legally obtained ? Be scared if you are hiding that kind of money.
Else i don't see a matter of big concern. If you are not hiding million of illegal money under the rug - i don't see why u need to be scared of this hooligans.
They will leave once they found out there is nothing to have it there.

Anyways we need better security.

Yeah Duke....not a big deal. All they will do is just storm in, beat you to near-death, tie you up, ransack everything you have and humiliate you. If you don't have any money they won't take it and those wounds are going to heal pretty soon anyways. No need to be afraid at all.

first of all this is a tragic happening...and it is growing .....and also growing is the feeling of lawlessness and lack of security...........the most secure place people feel is inside their own home...their private space, and when that space is invaded.....it is like the feeling of being raped...............Banks are being robbed, industries are being extorted.......so duke ......people in nepal keep their valuables in their homes their most safe place around.....But look at the odasity of these people ........even if they found nothing you sound like these people bought it to them selves..........the Idea of some one with guns and mask to enter ones house is enough for me to draw the line here........Rich or poor.....Its HOME INVASION.........and you sound so casual when you say that if you dont have anything at home you need not worry?????? well do you have mothers ,sisters ,cousin sor young maids in this house??? it takes one bad intention duke .......even if you are a poor family no one should go through a home invasion..........and you thing they wont beat torture and rape moms, and dads and loved ones once they dont find anything???////??.....................why is this thing happening in the capital.......I think because.....Many people were brought to the capital from all over Nepal by these blood thirsty maoists and the politician thugs in order to upset the peace of the country and to topple the recently monarchy elected government.......Now these leaders off all parties have achieved their goals and these people who they dragged from every corner of Nepal have no where to go......so I believe they start doing things that we have never heard that could happen in kathmandu..........................Maoists eating in local restaurants and not paying a money...........riding cabs ....and entereng movies free......just by saying that they are maoists and to not mess with them...........each day these people get bolder and bolder when they figure out what things they can get away with................Prachanda wants to make Nepal a complete communist country and he made that clear in his statement...REPUBLIC OF NEPAL...........and and now the terai wants a seperate state
soon it will be that the sherpas, Newars, bahuns etc etc....natural human reaction as we all feel safer to live in a community who shares the same language, beliefs and traditions...........and to create this environment the political parties first dismantles the king and his whole generations of fore fathers who founded this nation...with lots of blood and tears, and sacrifice by all Nepali of all ethnic races...........the tensions are not carefully attended to because if it boils out of hands, the politicians will gain from it...
.....if any one knows how politicians win In Nepal than you wont be surprised that they hire young thugs from everywhere........give them money And booze to run their campaigne with fear and intimidation.....and also a false hope to all the uneducate bunch..............................Maoists are issuing their own liscense plate Id and police cannot stop or arrest anyone who has this......You can easily threaten a police man by saying that you are a maoist and you will see him later............if he acts smart.......everyones hands are tied...........law is now actually blind in Nepal

A good house in New road or Thamel fetches 1 - 8 lakhs in rent per month, tax free.
plenty of people with plenty of money in kathmandu. With 90 percent of people in the country poor , underfed , jobless and with such high inflation; what do you expect ?
This is the only way for them to survive... socialism is the only solution .

This is the update of the incident.

It was a very bad incident for my friend and luckily his mom is alive due to her braveness who had to defend all alone with those well-armed 13 looters.

We got to know from Police that It was well planned by 2 house employees and 13 looters are involved in that burglary, among those 9 have been already arrested by police which was very fast action in few days. We should be very happy and thankful for their support and help in doing the right act. Those two house employees who betrayed my friend revealed their plans and those involved in the burglary.

Some stolen goods have been found but still 4 looters have to be apprehended. We hope these looters will get hard punishment but we are afraid that they will be free under pressure of corrupted leaders. We hope we will get good justice and those looters will get punishment.

Now it is time to take precaution while hiring the people or while dealing with the strangers. So that we can avoid all these incidents. Let all your parents know about these things so that they know what needs to be done before it is too late.

Yes you are right kaleKanchha don't hire house keepers this surely will resolve the issue. If they want to hire pay them well so that they will never think of doing all these bad acts. After all it is about material world and money is what life is all about. Who cares life right! When it comes to money! Paying them well will help there mind to not to do all these bad acts. Good thought! You know what I'm saying!

Please ,don't hire underage kids as your "nokar/nokarni".
It is so pathetic to see educated people in KTM hiring small kids to do their house work when the "Malikni/Malik" spend their time watching ridiculous Indian soaps.
