hey who do you think played better
Federer yesterday or Gonzalez ...very much debatable

just amazing these two played ..not that their opponents Roddick and Haas played bad, in fact they played very well if not at their best..but were totally undone by what Fernando and Roger had to offer

I wanted to compare these two INCREDIBLES before the finale

Federer's forehand= Gonzalez forehand
Federer's is more consistent though.both have speed and venom in their common strength unlike others( see roddick so much speed but no placement)

Gonzalez's 1st serve=Federer's 1st serve
Gonzalez's 1st serve may be betterbut it balances wwith Federer cuz i think Federer can get more 1st serves in

Federer's 2nd serve> Gonzalez 's 2nd serve
Federer has one of the best 2nd serves.. i dont think Gonzalez can match this aspect

Federer's backhand>Gonzalez's backhand
Although Gonzalez can hit tremendous backhand winners..it is his weakness and most of times he uses his back hand for defence ...while Federer's may be awkwardly wayward at times..but u know how good it is

Federer at Net= Gonzalez at net
I dunno but i think Gonzalez is equally good at the net just like federer..saw him play haas and Hewiit

Federer's court coverage and speed = Gonzalez's court coverage and speed

i think federer has clear cut allround advantage considering his 2nd serve and backhand...specially bankhands because Gonzalez most of the times uses his backhand as defence ..and defence is not at all a ploy to play against Federer anyway Gonzalez has nothing to lose.. he is just gonna give his best..federer will play as usual

I don't know how much you've watched Gonzalez play. Are you basing your "analysis" purely on the handful of matches you've seen him play at the Australian Open? He is very much a "hot and cold" player - he might give Federer a fight, but he can just as well lose badly in 3 sets. I don't think he will win though - I've seen him play better and lose to Federer before.

republican i have watched Gonzalez play very much before.....as i said federer may have an edge..and yes all my analysis is based on the way he has played in the australian open..he has played so good that i will be suprised if he can play even better in in the finals... but how can yu say that he has ever played better than he has played in this Open
ATTN: gONZA HAS more winners and lesser unforced errors in the tournament than federer ..........

There is an important thing you left out in your analysis - the return of serve. There have been none better(save a few equals), and no one currently comes even close to his amazing return of serve. Timing is everything!

i agree with yu save on earth federer does have the best return of service ever ..i missed that ..most often players defend the 2st serve but ..oh my god this Federer he simply goes after the 1st serve and comes out wid a winner.........

sahayog, what gonzalez did against other opponents has no bearing on the match against federer, because federer is on a class of his own, as everybody knows. winners and unforced errors against other opponents has little relevance in this final. if we're talking head to head.. federer is 9-0 against gonzalez.

and yes i have seen gonzalez play well in a tournament and lose to federer. in wimbledon 2005, gonzalez had blown through everybody without losing a set until he met federer in the quarterfinals. he played really well, with fantastic serving, but still lost in 3 close sets.

is there a possibility that gonzalez can beat federer.. definitely some possibility.. but very slim. federer definitely has the big edge.
