Ranchi: They can take the criticism but can they take this? In a shameful incident, India's wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni's under construction house in Ranchi was attacked by a mob on Sunday morning after India's loss to Bangladesh in their opening match of the World Cup.


Around 20-25 Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's youth wing activists held protests in front of Dhoni's property in Ranchi.


The mob demolished the boundary wall of the property and also burnt an effigy of the cricketer. The JMM youth wing leaders also demanded that Dhoni give back the land gifted to him by the Jharkhand government.


Dismissing the protest as a stray incident, Superintendent of Police (city) Richard Lakra said some people just shoved some bricks that were kept at the site for building the house.


"The house under construction is complete upto the plinth level," he said, adding that police were keeping a watch near the site and at Dhoni's house at Mecon.


After the shocking incident, former Bihar Ranji Trophy skipper K V P Rao said cricket was after all a game.


"Real fans should support the team now, as it was only the first match and Team India has a good chance to advance in the World Cup," Rao told PTI.


Another former international, Randhir Singh, observed that fans anywhere have high expectations from their favourite teams and like to watch them win.


Saroj Kumar, a die-hard Dhoni fan, said the handful of people who joined the protest only wanted "cheap publicity".


Irked fans torched effigies of Indian cricketers in Ahmedabad, Jalandhar and Kanpur, too, with fans in Kanpur demanding the inclusion of discarded UP player Mohammad Kaif in the team.


Burning effigies of captain Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and even Sachin Tendulkar, the protestors shouted slogans against the team.

Disappointed Indian cricket fans stage protests, burn effigies

New Delhi - Disappointed by India's poor performance against Bangladesh in their opening World Cup cricket championship match in the West Indies, fans staged protests across India on Sunday, news reports said. Underdog Bangladesh won the world championship Group B cricket match in Port of five wickets after bowling out India for a meagre 191 runs in a match that kept Indians awake till early hours Sunday.

Fans in Ahmedabad, capital of eastern Gujarat state, burnt effigies of captain Rahul Dravid, opener Virinder Sehwag and even India's all-time cricket hero Sachin Tendulkar, PTI news agency reported.

In Jalandhar city in northern Punjab state and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, irate fans held a protest marches and burnt posters of the cricketers.

I don't understand why people are mad at Agarkar. I mean that dude knows he is good for nothing, bichara lai Indian team bata kati choti drop garyo pani thaha chaina hola. Aba if the selectors call him back, what can he do..You can't blame that chap for wanting to earn some money before he retires...I mean seriously guys do you think Ajit Agarkar would have played cricket for 10 years for any other team except India----No way. I don't understand what the selectors see in him.

P.S: I am not saying that the Indians lost the game because of Agarkar. In fact I don't see what the fuss is all about. Every single cricket fan knows that India and Pakistan are the only teams that can beat Australia one day and get beaten by Zimbabwe the other day. I guess, that just makes the game interesting. If australai is playing zimbabwe there's no need to watch the game 'coz you already know the result but if india is playing zimbabwe you never know what's gonna happen.........

Bangladesh was trying to come to India to play a test match but Indian cricket board refused us over the years. I presume the reason was that it might not fetch lot of money form commercials.
We visited Pakistan, Srilanka, Australia and other countries but India. I hope this victory is a smart answer in the arrogant face of Indian Cricket Board. Never underestimate any team.
Moreover, look at B'Desh team, most of them are 17 to 22. What will India become after Ganguly, Dravid, Tendulkar retires ? Are you guys comming up with any new blood?
WAIT FOR 5 MORE YEARS. MAYBE TIME WILL COME WHEN INDIA WILL WANT TO COME TO DHAKA TO PLAY.

I think You the people are responsible for this kind of performance. First of all, correct your sense of understanding. Cricket is a game, win and lose happens. it is a part of the game. Let me ask all of you, how many of you have been winning every thing which you have been trying to do.
I am sure the answer is none.

So any team can have a good day and a bad day. I think our team is good and so is Bangladesh team. of course as per stats bangladesh is a poor team.

I think to say whether a person is playing good or not, You have to look at the statistics of atleast past few games.

Until India start playing this game technically using sophasticated means, chances of india winning the world cup are slim. Of course, if it wins without that..I would say it is one of those days where GOD happened to be with us.

I see lot of people praising ganguly. Keeping aside his latest few matches his performance had ben pathetic... Also, I can never forget that the very reason he is with indian team is because of reservation for the zone..When he joined the team, there were many better players then him. but as always in India, it is reservation and not merit, which decides who shud be in.

whatever, I know for sure even after this reading there will be hundreds if not thousands or more who wont agree with me.

Illiteracy is high and so is the real understanding of what knowledge means. Knowledge is not in books, it is about applying them And I hope sincerely that folks really start applying them to make our country a great country. Country becomes great by the greatness of people.

Guys, you should give Bangladesh it's proper due. Look at the Indian cricketers, all aged and out of form (probably due to too much money, bringing complacence). And look at the teenagers from Bangladesh. Except Bashar and Rafique, all the ppl in BD team are youngsters. And they DID play quite well, beating India fair and square.

The bottom line is: India didn't play bad, Bangladesh played well. This is just the beginning ...

On ur statement "- Tendulkar is unable to play when too many wickets are down. Let him continue to open and play freely "..

Lets do one thing..lets tell ICC that A,B,C and D bowlesr shud not bowl to him
-G,H fielder shud not throw at his stups while he is running
-I,J fielder shud misfield everytime Sachin is batting and allow him to reach 100 everytime
-Opponent captain shud start saying Sachin Sir bowing infront him and shud say Sir..pls take as many runs as possible...we will give u 10 attempts if ever u gets out by mistake...
-Then Sachin will be having all adv in the world...

Do u think it's playing cards game...where u get 100 chnces to win...

shud we make a hard coated shell where are players can live so that bowlers can not make them out....Sachin will open from 5-10 overs then he will go back again will come in 30-35 overs to see if he can bat else he will go back again will come at 45-50 overs and will see if he can hit couple of sixes...

well to do all these u have practice matches...Ranji,Deodhar,Iranai trohies r there in india where he can sort out his issues...over to that he played the max ODI's in the world...
Sachin please sleep well..don't be bothered by these comments..pls be comfortable and come to play when u fell like...no restrciction son u as u r the highest ODI run getter..

I'm very excited to see the match against Sri Lanka on friday.

In the video, one of the shots depict a young poor kid, with no cloth to cover his emaciated frame, holding the Indian tricolour and chanting the name Team India.

After the song was screened, coach Greg Chapell addressed the team and asked them to compare the scene with the picture of that old lady who was trying to climb over Wagah border to watch India play Pakistan in a cricket match.

Chappell, while comparing the two visuals, asked every member of the Indian team to remember that there are people in the country who despite their deprivations still support the Indian team with passion and spirit.

Chappell asked the team members to try and play Friday's game for countless similar Indians who back the team even when they are struggling with their own daily existence.

Chappell then coined a special slogan for the team's Friday's clash.

Chappell called it "Let's do it for each other."

The evening's meeting ended with all team members being asked to form a huddle similar to what they do in the field in celebration of a wicket gained.

The evening and its message was clear: Indian team needed an injection of selfless lay and hence the slogan "Let's do it for each other."

Too many for too long have put the interest of the self before the bigger cause and Chappell wanted to remind them of the duty.

The visual exercise was also intended to coax cricketers to come out of their "comfort zone" and remember all those fans who support the team even though their life is miserable.

The huddle of course was another exercise to make cricketers play like a 'team'-- it urged bonding to prevail.

Passion, selflessness and responsibility, these perhaps then are three virtues which the Indian cricketers presently lack.
