Saw this news on CNN. Found it quite awkward... What do you guys think?

Where's the weird part? Every hospital in the US that has a maternity ward, also has something similar to that drop box. When a baby is dropped into the box, until the baby is certain months, no questions are asked. I don't know the procedures after the baby reaches a certain age.
I work in the healthcare field and heard of it. Its much better than leaving babies are parks.

DROPPING a unwanted baby through a HATCH is not weird? Well it is for me... Sick people, if you don't want babies, don't have em!

They seem to be offering this service with religious purpose, everywhere u c, christian missionaries r involved into services towards children ....... schools, orphanage, hositals now this ... making the parents easy to abandon their kids. Converting the whole world christian is their unspoken goal, otherwise there r millions of other ways to help, why don't they ???

IT is better than leaving baby in the garbage or somewhere else. In america if you do not want baby you can take the baby to any police station, fire station or in the hospital but still so many babies are found in weird places like in the garbage or in public restroom , park etc... I agree with Meera.

Ritthe ji, there are millions ways to help and taking care of abandoned baby is one of them. Who else would have cared for those babies?

It is indeed a good move, but it will lure the economically deprived to abandon kids which they would not do otherwise. If one kid would have been left in garbage before, now 20 kids will be left in those drop boxes. Do u think it will help those heartless people who can leave new borns in garbage ........ they will keep on doing what they do best but at the same time population of orphans will rise.

So what you are saying is, people will give birth because they know they can always throw the kids in the drop box. It takes 9 full months to give one birth. Nobody will give birth so that they can throw their baby away.

Having a drop box is a safer option than people killing their babies.

The law enforcement should collect the DNA samples from the abadoned baby and try to match with those of available samples from relevant suspects or criminals and thereby prosecute those with matching samples.

That should have a deterrent effect.

Birth control costs should be subsidized by the government by levying additional taxes.

Abandoned babies are taken if they are males, because our society worships males. Very few female child is taken. Sometimes dogs find the babies before humans do, other times its too late and the baby is dead or damaged because of the cold.

Take China's example.

Under 21? No drinks and no condoms unless you buy the rubber. LOL! No j/k.
They should have access at video game arcades or school rest rooms. $25 cents a pop I think that's pretty reasonable and not too hard on their wallets.

Please don't misinterpret my words, I can ask you the same question too, do those people have babies just because they know they can kill or throw babies in garbage anytime they want ??? Pregnancy happens meeraji, people don't always plan pregnancy.

Abandoning babies should always be illegal, Those who don't hesitate to kill ones offspring, do you think they will be wise enough to drop babies in drop boxes ...... u don't need drop boxes to leave baby safely .......... they will keep on doing the same .....

I agree that it is not weird. I read similar news from Italy as well. It's better than letting these babies to die in the garbage. How many babies die in such a way in Nepal?

I also disagree that the couples will produce more babies and abandon their child in that way. No matter how bad the person is, I guess that nobody would want to abandon their child in that way. But they may have been forced to do it because of various reasons, such as unwanted pregnancy, financial problems, so-called father not wanting to take the responsibility, etc. So it is good that at least these kids won't die. I don't agree that couples will produce unwanted babies just because they have a safe place to abandon now. I think no couple may have thought that they'll have to abandon their kids in such a way. But the numbers of abandoned kids may grow more not because they're produced more, but because the couples with such weird cases now have safe passage for their unwanted kids.

meera, it is safe if u think about it, to have a drop box instead of the babies being killed but its still not right. can u imagine how many lives will be destroyed with this drop box? how many orphanages will need to be funded? how many children will wonder who their parents were and why they gave them up? why create more saddness and more children without hope?

I'd chose rather to those babies get killed in dumps rather than for their safe passage. I worry all about their future and what they will think (but only if they happen to live). But yea, I don't worry about how many babies are infact being killed withou such safe passages.

I don't understand these religious organizations, they r vocal against abortions and they promote abandoning kids. If they r really worried abt kids being abandoned in dumpsters, make abortion legal, this will take care of everything.
