Students arrested for disrupting SLC exam in Nawalparasi
Kantipur Report

NAWALPARASI, April 8 - The Police Sunday morning arrested seven students from an examination centre in Nawalparasi for disrupting the SLC examination.
The arrested students took today’s tests in the District Police Office premises. The students had been arrested from Pawan Secondary School where they were chanting slogans demanding that they be allowed to copy in the examination.

According to the District Education Office, all of the seven had been taking their exams as private students.

The arrested have alleged that the principal of the school and centre head Devendra Kumar Singh had taken Rs 10,000-15,000 from each of them, giving assurances that he would make sure they pass their exams.

Earlier, on Friday the Social Studies paper had been cancelled after they began chanting slogans demanding that they should be allowed to copy from books and keys since they had already paid to do so.

According to our Nawalparasi correspondent, the students were arrested this morning before the paper started as they began protesting with the demand that their money be returned if they were not allowed to cheat.

Meanwhile, in Sri Janata Higher Secondary School Balbazaar, Siraha five students have been assigned with an individual invigilator.

According to centre head Ram Dev Shah, although there is a provision which states that there should be one invigilator for 25 students, due to security reasons the number of invigilators had been increased. 165 invigilators have been assigned for 800 students there.

Meanwhile, Janassari Rai of Basa-4, Solukhumbu—who had gone missing since the past four days—was found dead in a nearby jungle.

Rai’s family has suspected that Rai, who was also pregnant, committed suicide ahead of this year's SLC after failing to cross two consecutive SLC exams, dubbed the "Iron Gate" in the past two years.

In Pokharia Secondary School, Biratnagar the Police have arrested Rajendra Karki for trying to disrupt the examination by becoming the centre head with fake identification papers. Along with Karki another man— who prepared the fake papers for him — has also been arrested.

Meanwhile, the Examination Controllers Office (ECO) Sunday issued a statement saying that the office was aware of incidents where some “unruly elements” had been trying to confuse students and parents by spreading rumours that various exam papers had been leaked.

Stating that such incidents adversely affected social structure, the statement has requested all to report about any person or group trying to spread such rumours to the nearest police station.

The ECO has further requested everyone to confidently sit for the examinations

Likewise, the District Education Officer (DEO) Mahottari Divas Mishra informed that today’s Compulsory Mathematics paper had not been leaked as it was previously claimed.

Earlier, Police in civilian clothes raided in various places in Jaleshwor and obtained photocopies of section A of the paper and original copies of section B.

However, after a thorough investigation it was found that those papers were fake.

The decision was taken in a meeting between the DEO and heads of the four examination centers.

The police had also arrested Mahendra Singh, Bhogendra Thakur, Ajay Shah and Jayesh Charan Yadav in Jaleshwor for selling fake papers.

My condolences to the murdered teacher; but why do all other poor kathmanduites have to suffer with traffic jams and valley bandh? everyone seems to gone insane these days.

Teacher’s death sparks protests in capital, traffic obstructed
Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, July 12 - Protesting against the killing of a lecturer by an unidentified group, students and teachers of Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC) Thursday obstructed traffic in the capital, especially Matighar-Koteshwor route, and warned of an indefinite strike.
An unidentified group had battered Dharma Raj Bista, lecturer at Nepal Commerce Campus, Minbhawan, who also taught at capital’s Everest College, Tuesday evening at Banglamukhi of Lalitpur.

The nine students’ unions and part-time teachers’ association of the Tribhuvan University have condemned the killing of Bista.

The students and teachers are scheduled to declare a protest programme later today.

Bista died of a severe head injury the same night while he was being operated upon at Bir Hospital. According to the police, Bista was rushed to Patan Hospital earlier but was later moved to Bir Hospital for CT scan and operation.

Bista was hit on his head with an iron rod by a group of three-four while he was returning home that evening.

Bista, 35, is survived by his wife and a three-year-old daughter.

The police though have intensified the search operations have failed to nab the culprits.

The students burnt tires in the middle of the road in Baneshwor area and brought traffic to a complete halt in the route.

The students had obstructed traffic in the area for an hour and a half yesterday as well.

The irate students have alleged that the government and the home ministry have not initiated any step to find the culprits who attacked the teacher to death in the heart of the city. The students have been demanding the government find and punish the culprits and compensate the victim’s family.
