your GRE score is very good. You should not worry about getting assistantship with that score provided you also have good acad and reco letters. I would suggest you to apply for about 7-8 schools. apply to 3 schools which are in top 50, three in 2nd tier and 2 schools which has masters as highest degree. good luck.

try these universities:
North Carolina State University
Iowa State University
Arizona State University
University of Michigan (tough to get admission)
Kansas State University (better not to try in power system in this university if you are applying for spring term)
University of Maryland at College Park

i would suggest u better not to try high profile universities ,though u have good GRE and other marks.getting admission is not only the big thing ..the main problem is to cope up with the study in the high profile universities , that will b really tough if u go to these universities,do a good research before u join any university

Where is hell, I agree with Number. Apply for some good universities and as a backup, for few second tier universities. And yes, you can get financial aid (in the form of RA or TA). I can tell from my experience that it is not difficult to cope with the environment in good universities , as perrybhadra suggested. If you are a good student, you will enjoy gradute studies here in USA.

After you submit your applications, browse the web pages of the professor who is doing research in the area of your interest. Read some of the interesting papers from those professors. ANd once the department gives you the admission decision , say without financial aid, talk to those professors for RA. That is what I did and I got the financial aid from 4 good universities. Don't give up talking to the profesors.
