Hi Sajhalis,

I am going to graduate this May and have got my OPT. Can you suggest me whether I can go back to Nepal and return back to USA after a couple of months? My university advisor told me that I can return back if I have a valid job offer. I am not sure about it because the card says "not valid for reentry. Please suggest!!

as far as everyone knows, you cannot make a reentry in USA with your OPT card . But US government had some changes over this matter and if you are working in OPT, have your employers official written letter that you are an employee of that company with so and so remuneration, then you can go to nepal and come back...but you never know. without a valid US visa, you might never fly from nepal, or you may be denied re entry at port of entry. my fren did the same thing, he was refused to be boarded on plane in nepal...make sure with your international advisor. and ask him to clear this with USCIS.

I think, Its not a good idea to travel the home country on OPT, if you want to return while you are on OPT. I heard of some people who got rejected to reenter US on OPT. However, if your employer has filed the H1 for you which isalready approved by the time you go back to Nepal, then it is possible to come back with H1 visa. Keep in mind that you can not enter US on H1 visa more than a month earlier of your H1 start date.

Small correction to raiter baje,
You cannot enter more than 10 days before the start date of your H1 and cannot get visa more than 30 days before the start date of the H1 date.
