The famous Bhimeswor idol in Dolkha Bazar sweated twice in a day on Saturday.
The sweating of Bhimeshwor idol is believed to be a bad omen or a sign of massive political upheaval in the nation.
According to the priest at the temple in Dolkha Bazar ward no. 6 of Bhimeswor municipality, the idol broke into sweat Saturday evening from 7 to 7:15 pm and once again from 8:30 to 10 pm.
Locals thronged the temple immediately after the priest rabg tge bell as an announcement of the bizarre phenomenon last evening.
Locals jostled to take back cotton swabs doused in the sweat and fan the sweating idol with animal hide.
Previously, such sweating was believed to be the harbinger of great crisis in royal family and cotton doused in the sweat used to be sent to the palace, in return, the palace used to send two goats and funds to the temple to clear away misfortune, said the priest.
However, Dolkha Chief District Officer Uddhav Bahadur Thapa said that this time around, the sweated cotton would be dispatched to the Home Ministry.
It is believed that the idol had sweated before 1934 mega quake, 1941 and 1951, death of 1955, 1972, prior to quake in 1989, prior to 1990 and prior to royal massacre in 2001.
