Are the Politicians in Nepal gone really SENILE ? HOW THE FUG DOES ONE COUNTRY HAVE TWO ARMIES ? This is a fugging recipe for disaster.

Neither the Commies nor the crony Politicians are looking out for the Country. But are just looking out for themselves. This is really really sad to see.

Second that....

Only in Nepal...one of the poorest country in the world can even think about having two armies...much less paying them to just sit around, doing nothing !! That's what happens when cowards think they are powerful when they have weapons in their arms !

It is the price for peace. In line with the expectations set in the 12 point accord and other agreements that followed. I couldn't tell from the KOL article how long the stipends would continue. The lack of a definite time line, if that is indeed the case, rather than the stipends
themselves are the bigger concern IMO.

YEah been listening to Radio Nepal every monin'
And the news in RADDI YO NEPAL was all about that Bhatta this AM.

I guess if its the price for Peace I am all for it Captn' but BIG BUTT he he are the Mao's going to comply ? That is the question. They still have yet to give up their arms. I do not feel comfortable with ARMED MILITIA MEN RUNNING RAMPANT IN THE COUNTRY(whether they are using them or not). Their reluctance to join the NEPAL amry does not make me trust them. As you said .... if this bring peace and stability in NEPAL ...SO BE IT.

If innocent people like caps are still thinking that there is actually going to be peace in Nepal. Then that is impossible.
Likely scenario how peace can come in Nepal: Pack your bags are leave everything to maoist. Then there will be peace otherwise don't expect any peace now or in near future.
Maoist will not stop untill they get what they want and what they want is full control anyhow.

All the violent activities of MJFand others we see now going on in Nepal , the credit goes to maoist. They are using same tactics that maoist used. So, peace ...YA dream on..how would you control so many fraction.

In the name of peace , already police and army has been demoralized. It is their patience that they are keeping quite and looking at this circus.Don't be surprised when one fraction will come out of army .Then one more headache.

Maoist and Peace don't go side by side.If you really want to pay the price for peace. Then bow down infront of Maoist!!

"Innocent people like caps"?

Oh please, spare me the patronizing tone.

The only way to resolve the Maoists problem is to engage them. Which is exactly what has been happening - with more success in some areas than others.

Come up with a better plan, take it to the people of Nepal and make your case if you can. Otherwise, stay out and let the people who are trying to solve this do their job.

Just my thoughts.

In case you missed it, a civil war has just ended, the death rate in Nepal has plummeted, a political process to resolve the country's problems is gaining shape.

It's not complete or perfect - but this is the furthest the country has gotten in the process to fixing its problems.

Ya I have a plan.I have plan to arm every one in Nepal. What the hell!! So no one can be powerful than the others. If they want to play bloody game .Why not all play bloody game ?And after spending so much money if it has no chance of success unless we give up to maoist then be it.Lets play a blood game .

I am not patronizing you caps .I am just teasing you.And what is the success of this .Still YCL is active .No one really have controlled Maoist .INfact maoist have controlled cities and villages in bigger scale then before.

IMI - The only thing that makes any sense in your reply is the point about YCL. A certain amount of violence is only to be expected when a guerrilla army is dissolving back into the larger society. The YCL is the direct result and the vehicle of that transformation.

Mailobhai - And you must have solid data to back that up I imagine? If you are to post such blatant claims, have the numbers to back them up. How about this number: death rate this year? 15,000 people killed over a 10 year period. Average to 1500 per year. What is the death toll this year? Any takers?

I am by no means saying all is perfect. But going back to why this thread was started, which was to discuss the stipend,I think the government is keeping its end of the bargain and this is happening under UN supervision and I dont see any other workable alternatives. If anyone has an alternative that is not as ridiculous as some of the things that have come up on Sajha, I cant imagine why Ian Martin or Girija or Prachanda would have a problem implementing it.

Lastly, lead, follow or get out of the way. There can only be one thing worse than inept politicians : whining elites who can or will do nothing about the problem

Yes, I sure read KOL and NN at times - why, dont you? If you are implying that my political outlook is limited because of my reading habits, why don't we let our respective records here on Sajha speak for themselves? I am quite confident of standing my ground on that account.

And no, I don't have a Maoist agenda. On the contrary, I have very little sympathy with them. I thought the movement started out with a legitimate agenda but rapidly turned into a killing machine operated by thugs. But I want a stable political system in my country and I feel the only way to get such a thing is to engage all parties to the conflict - and that includes the Maoists. So far this strategy has worked in a limited but sufficient manner.

Let's get real, the Maoist problem cannot be solved my making them feel like idiots. That's why the movement started in the first place in some respects. Based on everything I have read on Sajha, I have yet to see a better plan for peace in Nepal than the one worked out by the parties, the Maoists and the UN. It is not a perfect plan, but it is the only viable one on the table that has a chance of actually working.

The Maoists joining the government, confining the PLA to camps, the formation of the YCL to act as the transition vehicle for the PLA and the militias into the political mainstream are all part of that process. It has probably has been slower than many people would have liked but to say nothing has improved is simply nonsense.

If anyone knows of a better way to solve this conflict, they should make their case before the people of Nepal. If you can't do that yourself, then there are others who are trying to bring some structure into the country with their own ideas - however good or bad they may be - let them do their job.

That's all.

Lead, follow or get out of the way - Thoman Paine
