Emptiness
The universe is empty because the space is empty. Our galaxy is empty. Anything that pertains to the space including stars, planets and other matters are empty. Therefore, we living beings are empty. Anything created by us or by anything is empty. The five elements of nature are empty. The sun is empty and is nothing but a ball of fire. The time which we created is empty. Everything is empty. Hemingway and Dalai Lama both say that there is nothing. Our lives are empty. If there is nothing and everything is empty, then what about us, earth creatures? We attach our lives to the earth which means we do not exist or even if we do, we mean nothing. Our soul or spirits mean nothing. Our birth, our death does not mean anything. So what about our history and the things we are doing right now? If there is no time, then why do we count days in our lives? Why live in a family, why work, why do everything that we are doing right now? If our life is an illusion, what is the purport of this life? Dalai Lama might say we are here to achieve enlightment but what difference does it make to know the truth because the truth is nothing and is empty in it. I believe that we are a game played by our self for no apparent reason. So why love your life, your property, your land, your family. If these attachments mean nothing, then why coagulate in this life blindly and try to escape from the truth? Why do we compete against each other for better life, land, education, job, dignity, etc. if they mean nothing? I believe we all should live with a common understanding that there is nothing and our lives here are momentary. If we all acknowledge the truth which is nothing then we could live together with no zeal, no wars, and no problems at all. Or, the other way which is that all the planets and stars reside in the space, we living beings live on the earth, depend on earth for everything. The sun does not exist but it does help us survive. The time does not exist but we depend on time to perform every action in our lives. The five elements do not exist but without those elements we can not live. Our souls do not exist but we live our lives believing in our souls. Family is needed to exist. Everyone is dependant one another. Wars either physical or mental both are worthless as humans also depend on each other to survive. All living beings and even non-living beings depend on each other for their existence even though they do not exist. Knowing the truth does not mean we have to ignore everything instead have to accept and move on as there is nothing to interrupt us. Finally, just like Hemingway did, I believe nothing is equal to nothing and we are compelled to deal with the world and can do nothing. Therefore, I conclude that my belief that there is nothing because my mind that controls my perceptions is empty.

My friend you are talking about the long run. Yes in the spectrum of existence, everything we do doesn't mean jack. Out whole life is insignificant. Even the whole earth is insignificant.

But my friend, we have to be practical and focus on the present because that's what you have and you're the living proof. Each day, you get hungry you need to eat. Each day you get cold you need clothes. You need a place to sleep, you have needs. Your body has needs and you feel the retribution if you don't fulfil it.

In the long run it doesn't mean anything, but right now what you have is your present and present in another word is a gift. You have gift of life and you should try to enjoy and make the best out of it while you have it. After all that's all you have. It's a one shot chance to make the best out of it. Try to make it a good experience my friend.

Your argument about the long run can come in handy if you meet with any failures or negative experiences. You shouldn't let negative things bother you too much because after all nothing's permanent.

First of all, let's define 'emptiness'.
From Merriam-Webster's dictionary, I guessed the closest definition of 'emptiness' in the context of what you're talking about would be
2 a : lacking reality, substance, meaning, or value : HOLLOW
4 a : IDLE b : having no purpose or result : USELESS

please correct me if i'm wrong.

Mind is the only thing that is not empty. Yes, probably the ideal state should be empty. Even though, I agree that it has to be empty, but in real it is not empty; at least my mind is not empty. Here I'm referring to the absence of thoughts as the emptiness of mind.
