Which are the best credit cards to start with and easy to get for a person with no credit hostory at all?
How many days after receving SSN from SSN office is best to apply for Credit Card? One of my friend applied American Express and Washington Mutual Visa after a week of receiving SSN and got denied for not having any infomation with Credit Bureau.

Try US Bank reward card, It gave me when I had not history at all. Though it gives you very small credit limit at the begining, it is really good way to build your history

No body has credit history at the beginning. There is no way to tell which company will issue you first credit card. It is just a chance. You have to apply to all possible providers that provide either Visa or Master Card with no annual fee. You can also try for American Express or Dicover Card (but less preferred to VISA/MC).

These days, almost every franchise (e.g., Macy's, SHEAR'S/K-mart, etc) issue VISA/MC credit cards. You can try them because you get faster response (on the spot) and possibly can walk way with a credit card.

Do not by any mens listen to these couple of posts above mine... Either they have least experience or they are just trying to drop random comments. How wise is it to suggest an individual with no credit history to apply for American express/Discover card? Which need a very good credit history and a good credit score. For a beginer its just a suicide to apply for these types of credit cards or even store credit cards like macy's. No wonder why your friend got denied coz he did a sloopy job by directly applying for lower raters and lets say credit cards that comes with rewards programe. According to my evaluation you have two option if you are new and want credit card.

1. Get a student credit card.
2. Get a secured credit card.

1. For student credit card i would recomend you to apply any type of student credit cards call and and apply of if they are in your school thats even better. One good example is citi cards. They are the best in these cases and are wanting to gamble their money with least no credit history all because of one simple reason if you are a student and max your credit limit then your parents would bail you out. Just be sure when you apply atleast have a decent household annual income. And state you major as engineering field.

2. Secured credit cards is another better option. One good example is Bank of america. Go in there and tell em i want to apply for secured credit card. You would need to deposit the amount that you want as your credit limit. Lets say you start with $500 deposit that money and apply and within weeks you would have your credit card. Use it in a regular basis and pay it off in full by each month. After a year they would give you your $500 back and on top of that there is a great probablity that they would increase your credit limit too.

If you do the above 1. and 2. successfully either one of them then dont apply for any other credit cards. Within six month of using them you would get tons of offers in mail. Dont accept and wait. let your history get build up. I would recomend you to wait atleast a year and half. Now dont go online and apply from the website. Apply the one that come in mail which states, "You are pre-approved" dont apply if it says you are,"pre-qualified". All the good luck. If problem persists put the post here i got abundant number of solutions for your credit card delime. take care and peace.

"How wise is it to suggest an individual with no credit history to apply for American express/Discover card?"

I have seen some international students who got approved for Discover card within a couple of weeks after they landed in the USA. While they were turned down for Visa/MC.

That dosent mean that the luck would stirke again my friend. You need stick to the basics. I feel like you are telling, "Listen dude i dont know how deep is that water but there are more chances that you survive even if you dont know swimming my couple of friends survivied. you know?" thats what you are telling. Let me tell you the consequences. If you keep applying for credit card and keep getting turned down for every credit check atleas 5-10 points are taken away from your score. Assuming you have no credit you score should be somewhere around 500-600 or may be least in some cases. I would recomend new swimmers to join the club first and learn the swimming and then jump in the water. But hey you know you played your part dude.. all in all the person who posted this initially wanted to kmow about it good or bad..

As per my experience I suggest you to apply for Citi® Platinum Select® Visa® Card for College Students. You need to submit proof of payment of tuition fee and/or copy of your college ID. Dont forget to tick that u r "US Citiizen" (!). I could obtain credit card 4 weeks after I got SSN. Once you apply online, they will send you mail asking such proofs. You may get credit line of $2000. If you have bank account in banks like Chase, Bank of America, then you have always a high chance to get credit cards from those one. Better to get one from citi first and have some credit history (wait atleast one statement)!

I am not a credit experet...this is all about my personal experience with getting credit cards. I guess, it will help you guys.

Best thing to do is.. start a bank account and normally whichever account you start with a bank, they offer you a credit card. Keep it good and keep your bank statements cool and then you'll start getting tooo many of pre-approved cards. Do not apply other than pre-approved cards as denial of credit cards also goes in your credit reports

What I would like to suggest you is as follows.

Go to any bank and say u need a credit card. DONOT apply for a secure credit card if u are getting a regluar CC.

Say them u can get a secure credit card from any bank..... Ask them what they can offer.

It's up to u how you can talk with them.

My first credit card ( without credit history) was $1500.
Ask them what they can offer.

Bye

Seems like Secure Credit Cards have annual fee. The card is for J2- a dependent of J1 exchange visa so can not apply for student credit cards. Got instant denied on American Express, Providian and Wachovia.

My suggestion would be NOT TO APPLY AT any credit cards.
Any time you get rejected, it will negatively impact your credit history.
Thus applying for another if you are rejected by one is kinda stupid.

Rely on your DEBIT card, and then after about 9 months or so reply to one of those pre-approved mail offers.

and Oh yes, once you get one do not Max it out. Never use more than 50 % of your Limit.
Never apply another credit card when you have a big Balance on one.
