i read somewhere that you might be asked for passport which must be valid for at least 6 month from the time you enter some country(india).

As per the international law, you need at least six months of validity in your passport to travel. That means you have to renew your passport.

Sum
Renew your passport here in USA if you can. If you have an H-1B visa, a valid stamp requires atleast 6 months in the passport expiration. Getting passport in US is easier compared to Nepal for obvious beurocratic reasons.

Sum,

I have traveled throughout India with my Citizenship card in Flight starting from Tribhuwan Antarastriya Hawai Adda to Netaji Subhas Chandra Boss Intl. Airport and returned to Kathmandu via Delhi - Indira Gandhi Intl Airport in the year 2006 July and visited my old Indian Friends.

Any questions?

THYANGBOCHE,

SORRY I AM KIND OF PARANOID RIGH NOW. I HAVE BEEN IN MANY DOMESTIC FLIGHT IN USA BUT NEVER TRAVELED ALONE OUTSIDE USA.
if my transit was in ANY other country i could just ask some people in the airport and i would have trusted them but i dont trust DHOTIS at all thats why i just wanted to get as much information as possible before you guys.
my questions are as follows

1. do they check my passport in new delhi airport. i have transit there and i will possibly not get out of airport. my passport expires within 3 months after i land on new delhi airport. most airport ask for 6 month valid passports. my question is if new delhi airport checks passport will they give me trouble for not having passport that is not valid for 6 month. If i dont need a passport which is valid for at least 6 month i was thinking about getting passport in nepal which will take 1-2 days (at least that was how long it took me to get one when i had to get it last time).
2. in new delhi airport since i only have transit for 12 hour do i need to go through immigration or custom office or any office as matter of fact.
3. in domestic flights in usa you just get out of plane and pick up your baggage and leave. i dont know what to do with my luggage in new delhi do i pick it up as soon as we get out of our plane and agian check it in for royal airlines airplane. will i have to go through security and other kind of stuff when i enter royal airplane.

Sum,
Since you are travelling towards Nepal (not travelling away from Nepal), i think you should be okay with 3 months remaining for expiration. Once you are in Nepal, you can renew it to come back.

international student advisor told me that if you are going back to your home country 6 month expiration rule does not apply.
