Just imagine what will happen if GP Koirala' wish is granted:
1) We will have a Minor King sucking suckers in some official programs and will required to change his nappy during others.
2) Our dear political leaders will have a bigger freedom to do whatever they wish in name of Minor Monarch putting all the blame of wrong doing on a Minor who is a child anyway.
3) Country will be spending equal amount of money to continue Monarch as they are doing now without getting any positive suggestions and decisions from such an expensive Head of State (Minor).
I sometime wonder if GP Koirala ever use his brain to speak about what he is speaking. Or he has his brain under his touge.

Monarchy can continue only if King, Crown Prince abdicate before CA polls: PM Koirala

By Sanjeev Satgainya and Suresh Nath Neupane

KATHMANDU, June 17 - Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the monarchy could be allowed to continue in Nepal only if King Gyanendra and Crown Prince Paras gave up the throne before the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections to be held by mid-December.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with some Nepali and Pakistani journalists at his official residence in Baluwatar Sunday afternoon.

PM Koirala also warned that if King Gyanendra and Crown Prince Paras did not give up the throne before the polls, the Constituent Assembly would mark an end of Nepal's monarchy, according to Editor of vernacular tabloid Jan Astha, Kishor Shrestha who was present in today’s meeting.

“I have already clearly told His Majesty that you (king) and the Crown Prince are very unpopular. So it would be better if you both make the way clear for the concept of a minor king by giving up the throne,” Shrestha quoted Koirala as saying.

“It would be better if this decision is taken before the CA polls, otherwise the monarchy wouldn’t get even that much space,” Koirala said, “After giving up the throne, the king can either leave the country or can run his businesses here.”

"I have told the king that this (abdication) is the only way to save the monarchy," Rajendra Kumar Baidhya, another participant of today's meeting, quoted the PM as saying.

The PM’s remarks follow an amendment of the interim constitution by the interim parliament on Wednesday (June 13) that allows a two-thirds parliament majority to abolish the monarchy.

Three Nepali and a dozen Pakistani journalists were present in today’s meeting, according to Shrestha.

PM Koirala, who has drawn flak on a couple of occasions earlier for making statements that were perceived as his endeavour to save the monarchy, today said that it was for the king to decide (by abdicating before the CA polls) whether or not the monarchy would continue in the country.

This is the second time the prime minister has suggested that the king should relinquish the throne for the continuation of the monarchy in Nepal.

Earlier in March, during a visit to his hometown Biratnagar, PM Koirala has made a similar statement urging the king to step down. In the political circle, the PM’s remarks were viewed as his wish to continue the monarchy by making Navayubaraj Hridayendra (Crown Prince Paras’ son) the new king.

The ruling eight parties have agreed to hold the CA polls in the Nepali month of Mangshir (mid-November to mid-December) but the exact date for the poll is yet to be fixed.

Yesterday, during a meeting with Speaker Subhas Nembang, PM Koirala had said that November 26 could be proposed as the new poll date in the next cabinet meeting.

Man only 0.0005% of his brain is active i guess, plus he is ready to expire anyway. One thing i could not buy into that is the son of Paras to be a ceremonial king. Well if his son would be taken as minor king, then won't the minor king later would do what his grand father and father taught him anyway ?? I would have bought the idea if Shruti's son to be a minor thing, but ...anyway Giraja talks a load of crap, who am i kidding? he IS GIRIJA. There is no better explanation.

I think it would be better Sruti's daughter as a queen rather than Hirdaynendra king.

Two things come to mind

1. Is there no respect to the agreement the SPU and Maoist made just few months back? Weren't we suppose to decide the fate of monarchy after CA elections result? Maoists want Republic now and GP is forwarding his suggestion, aka decree.

2. Why is this absolute love towards monarchy? Do we need a monarchy so much so that a baby king needs to be the figurehead of Nepal?

My take on this is it is another attempt by Mr Koirala's to lure pro-Monarchy voters into his camp. While this tactic may have little success amongst Kathmandu's pro-monarchy elite, who seem to pathologically detest Mr Koirala and will never vote for him, there is a good chance it might work outside Kathmandu. The pro-King voter in Jhapa or Bardiya has a choice between voting for the RPP which for all intents and purposes has virtually no chance of power and voting for the NC, which has a reasonable shot at power. These voters may be small in number but are significant in a closely contested election which the next one is bound to be. Because they dont seem to see Mr Koirala with the same prejudicial lense that Kathmandu's pro-King voters see him, such voters might actually end up voting for his party. This has happened before in marginal constituencies and could very well happen again.

Just a thought.

I'm against the monarchy; so it doesn't make sense to me at all. From our history books in school days, we learned about all those parasites who sucked the country in the name of king. Starting from the demise of Prithvi Narayan Shah, dirty bloody politics started to grab over the power from prime ministers to queens to different "bhardars". This brought us the dark regime of rana era. Since Prithvi Narayan Shah, it has rarely been the king who ruled our country but the people behind the curtains. Koiralas are also trying to do the same - to suck the country and nothing is going to change the face of our country until the monarchy is gone. It is unfortunate that the communists are dominant in our country and people have started to see their real faces, and international community doesn't want the communists to rule in our country, and so do most of us. While we're doing all these discussions, the poor people are going to suffer and whose lives are not going to be changed soon.

It almost sounds like a promise of staying in touch as best friends during a relationship breakup. You know that it would not going to work out, but you say that to be nice. Or, the new immigration reformation idea of allowing temporary work permits to the illegal immigrants for five years. What the F*** you gonna do after five years? Hence, we either have a monarchy or we do not. There is no difference one way or the other no matter who the king is. This is a bullshit suggestion from a bullshit PM.
