Hello,
I need help with Data Recovery. Here is what happened.

I needed to install Solaris 10, so I installed Solaris 10, works fine.
Restart to Windows, it crashed and PC automatically starts System Recovery process.

Towards end of System Recovery, I get Prompt to click OK, The message was, everything will be formatted and Data Will be Lost.
I pulled the plug off from PC.

I took Hard-Drive out, and put it in another computer to see and only thing I can see in the drive is "System Restore" folder.

email me karma.lama AT gmail.com

since you know solaris i hope this might be the cure, for getting data out of my hardrive when my OS crashes, i use knoppix, start the ssh server and from another windows computer login to it and copy the files using win SCP. Make sure your hardrive hda or hdb to have read write permission.

in my attempt to retrieve data, I removed Solaris, and my drive got only Windows data. And plugging this drive to another computer only shows E:\System Restore folder.
so I am looking for Windows based tool.

you have already installed solaris on it...so removing solaris is not a solution....as i think

was there any empty partition (for solaris) before you installed it ??

Hey there,

You can retrieve the files from the C:drive with the help of a Disc called Bart mini PE.. .. Friend of mine gave this disc to me.. not sure how he got it.. There are few information about this in the Net..Do a google serch on Bart Mini PE..
This disc allows you to login to windows environment and retrieve the data.. I am not sure whether you can do System restore with that or not..But you can save any data stored in your hard drive with the help of this..

Good Luck

Hmm.. Bart Mini PE (a freeware)... Sounds Interesting -- @PowerGal, have you used it yourself, or just heard through friends and Google?

@lamak98, Try that tool out, it's worth trying; & could bring you a luck !! Or Else, Look for some Forensic Tools on the net, and purchase one for about 40 bucks, if your data's worth more than that. Else if you're broke and helpless like myself, shoot me an email @

See if I can help you rescue those files. ;)

@Cyberdude, does one need to run SSH server on a Solaris/UNIX machine to be able to share files? Ummm... I doubt it!! How about simply turning on Port 21 momentarily.and fetching that sucker (file) through say coreFTP LE.? Ahh..BTW, you sound like a Solaris person there -- Would love to throw some binary questions on you, if you wouldn't mind lending your helping hand sometimes. :)

.

Do u know you deleted the SOLARIS partition or you guess you have?

And if you are trying to recover data from the windows partition, i think you should give the afore-mentioned recovery tool a try. For i learnt once, that a data is never deleted completely even if you empty from the recycle bin unless you really change/alter the preamble bits following the data or use some *complete eradication* tool. : )

Good thing that you pulled out the plug. Better would be "NO" to that prompt, if it was there!! :) I think the data can be recovered.
