MYAGDI, June 24 - Sixth grader Kamala Shah of Jamunakharka Secondary School here was hit by a bullet, which Nepal Army authorities claim was 'accidentally discharged' from the rifle of NA personnel Bhimsen Thapa on Sunday.
condition is reported to be serious due to excessive bleeding from her right cheek where she was hit by the bullet.
The bullet was fired from an NA post, 20 meters east of the incident site. Following the incident, irate locals beat up an NA jamadar and also pelted stones at an NA Major, who was trying to talk to the villagers.
Locals staged demonstrations demanding immediate removal of the NA barracks from the locality and cut off a pipe to stop water supply to the barrack.
Issuing a statement, the NA's Western Divisional Headquarter Pokhara stated that Shah was injured in an "accidental discharge" from a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) handled by Thapa, who was on sentry duty at the Number Four Post of Bajradal battalion.
Sixteen-year-old Shah was hit as she came out of her house after having her meal, according to locals.
NA soldiers came outside the camp only half-an-hour after the incident, locals said.
It was a mistake from our side. Legal action will be taken against the soldier as the incident occurred due to his negligence during duty hours,"
Meanwhile, the divisional headquarter in Pokhara stated that the sentry was taken into custody and interrogation has begun.
This is the fifth time that bullets 'discharged' from the barrack came towards the settlement, according to local teacher Hari Dhungana.this is not the fist time. there many time such incident happen by them. mainly that occurs near by the post.
