It is amazing the way we are losing our culture in the name of political changes and anti-monarch sentiment. After reading this article in Nepalnews.com, I felt like why are we still celebrating 'Bhoto Jatra' if we cannot follow it in the traditional and cultural way as we were doing in the past. If the Jatra has lost its significant as there is no King (as per SPAM) why continue to follow it. Neither Lord Indra is going to come and ask Nepali Janta why you didn't celebrate my Jatra nor anyone else would. Culture and Traditional should not be affected by the political change. Are we going to celebrate Tihar in Baisakh or Dasai in Asar just because GP Koirala or Prachanda wants to celebrate in that month? What is happening guys?? As far as I have understood, State and Politics should remain away from Culture and Religion. If you can't follow the culture better get rid of it. If there is no King, better do not show the 'Bhoto' at all. Atleast do not make a mockery of hundreds of years of culture.

King loses his ‘cultural right’ as PM witnesses Bhoto Jatra

Breaking with the long tradition, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala witnessed the ‘Bhoto Jatra’ ceremony organised at the end of the chariot procession of ‘rain God’ Rato Machhindranath in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, Sunday evening.

PM Koirala, who enjoys the powers of the head of the state, witnessed the Bhoto Jatra amidst a huge public gathering.

Earlier, the King would witness the traditional ceremony.

A squad of Nepal Army presented guard of honour to the Prime Minister when he arrived at Jawalakhel to witness Bhoto Jatra. Speaker Subash Nemwang, Chief Justice Dilip Poudel and some ministers were also present there.

Thousands of people joined in the Bhoto Jatra, which concluded after several weeks of chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath.

The government announced public holiday in the Kathmandu Valley on the occasion of the Machhindranath Bhoto Jatra today. nepalnews.com mk July 08 07

I couldn't agree more with you, deshbhakta. If only the nepalese people had a sense of culture, religion, heritage and politics, I don't think the country would have gone through what it is going through at present.

It's a shame......
