A 10-year-old Nepalese girl was stripped of her title as a Living Goddess recently because she traveled overseas to promote a documentary about the centuries-old tradition. On July 3, 2007, Sajani Shakya was removed from her position as a Kumari of Bhaktapur for visiting the US. The visit, according to the elders, had tainted her purity.
