My friend wants to apply for a tourist visa for USA. This is, even with sponsor letter, difficult to obtain. Does anybody know whether he gets more chance if he will visit first to Germany and UK and show that he returned to Nepal after that travel? What else will create a larger possibility for getting a visa for USA

Only thing i can say is previous trips to some western countries (UK, Canada, etc) might help to get visitor visa to the USA. However, there are many denials of visa when people apply directly from those countries (without going back to Nepal) during their visit.

It depends on many other circumstances as well. It can not be generalized i think.

one thing i wanna know is if someone is already in states on visitor visa......
but her visa is valid only for six months say till november 2007 but her valid stay in i-94 is only till september end.but she has got exam somewhere in december?
now can she apply for extension of stay for december even if her visa expires in november or she has to go back to nepal and apply for new visa?
suggestions sought

My understanding is that your visa stamp is for the purpose of leaving Nepal and to enter the USA only. After entering from port of entry, your stay is governed by I-94 and you are authorized to stay as long as your I-94 permits regardless of your visa stamp expiration date. In this case, i think you can stay longer if you apply for extension of authorized stay by filling I-539 to the USCIS with genuine reason and they approve your petition. In that case, they will issue a new I-94 and it will show how long you are authorized to stay.

I agree with Makar. When I came here, I only had 1 year stamp on my passport (that's how it was back then--not 5 yrs).My visa stamp expired in a year, but my I-94 kept me in status. File for extension.....

uys,

I have 3 different I 94 due to various extensions and status change, so I was wondering which one to submit when departing. I believe I need the latest one for my arrival again, but I was confused about the one to be submitted. Is it the first one that I got when I entered, or the ones that I got with approval of my extensions and status changes.

thanks.

o far as i understand, you need to surrender all I-94s in your possession while leaving the USA. You don't need your old I-94 while re-entering the USA. Rather, you will get a new one at the time of re-entry.

he I-94 number remains the same.

You need to surrender the initial I-94 along with copies of the recent ones to show the authorized stay in the US.

es, it is true. I-94 number remains the same. For example, you entered as F1 with an I-94 and later changed to H1B but your I-94 number in your H1B approval is same as your F1 I-94 number. And you should submit your I-94 whenever you leave USA.

hanks Guys,

My numbers in all are same. Someone told me that you should keep the latest one and submit the first one and when returning dont have to fill the arrival form but use the latest approval, but he couldn't confirm it. I'm still unsure about it.

t is my understanding that you can not use previous I-94 as a basis for re-entry to the USA. You need to have a valid visa unless you have green card or citizenship or any other type of re-entry permit to enter the USA. Once you leave the USA, i don't think previous I-94 means anything to you more than a scratch piece of paper. Forgive me if i am wrong.

eason why I was confused is, one of my friend got his visa (H1B) stamp from mexico. While exiting to Mexico he gave away the the I-94 he had from the port of entry when he first came to US. After getting his visa, while coming back to US he gave the I-94 that comes along with I-797A (H1B approval notice) to the officer, and that was stamped by the officer with arrival record.

The old I-94 has our arrival record, while the new I-94, that comes along with status change approval notice, deosn't have the arrival record but shows the validity for stay. I'm not even sure if the new I-94 (from notice) is even considered I-94 as it deosn't have any stamps, I have a feeling that it must just be a complimentarty to the original one, showing you are still valid. I'm trying to browse thru USCIS website, but all it says it surrender your I-94 when leaving. So either surrender both while leaving, or since there is new I-94 (with approval notice) the old one is of no use now, or surrender the old one when departing and get the officer to stamp the arrival date in the new one when coming back.

uring my entry the inspector at the port of entry while tearing the i-94 from main page
,tore some of my numbers.since that was my 1st time entry i didnt speak anything and neither that guy gave that torn apart part attached to the main i-94.later on i contacted the customs and border security(cbs) and told them my problem.after some questions to verify my authenticity, the guy on phone gave me my i-94 number.now i have noted my number.
but my concern is does it cause problem in future becos some number are missing becos of tearing?i can tell them my full i-94 number.
i m thinking of extending my stay.and i will be sending my i-94 for that purpose ......will it cause any hassles or delay becos of i-94 missing numbers?
pls suggest
