Is anyone flying to Nepal in the month of October from DC? Are there any good deals around that time? Currently I don't have any priorities on specific airlines but I'd rather prefer to go thru Europe instead of Doha/Quatar or Delhi. Any kind of suggestion or information will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Stardust, I did take that route earlier this year. I have seen Cathay's service standards considerably decline in the last six years (flown with them 3 times). That said, it is still far better than the "service" you receive from US domestic carriers. The IFE system should keep you occupied for the 15+ hr long LAX-HKG flight. The food is still pretty good though not as it was in the past. The connecting flights on Thai are short and also with excellent service but without IFE.

On the return journey, you may have a long overnight layover at BKK. I think you need a transit visa for layovers of more than 12 hrs (even when you are not exiting the airport) at BKK as well. You may want to confirm this.

I have also taken Korean twice and the service was great. Now that they fly to KTM directly, it may be worth a shot if fares are not prohibitively expensive.

i have never travelled via middle east or india and hope don't have to. having flown to ktm in april, i must say that the best and fastest way to nepal from mainland USA is on thai airways (does anyone disagree?), especially for those who can fly out of LAX. if you are in this area, then this route is a must. LAX-BKK-KTM in about 22 hrs total flight time and back in about 18 hrs flight time. imagine just one layover and transit time of 1-4 hrs each way. expect to pay a couple hundred $$ more (for the thai service) and we all know getting seats on thai might be difficult on BKK-KTM route. plan your trip well in advance & you will be rewarded. no visa required, no long transits and no odd hr landing/take off from ktm. definitely worth the price.

I agree with midwestdude. Here is a little tip to the people reading this message. There is a class between Economy and Business on Thai. It is called premium-economy. It has better leg room and service (except for the food). You can get that for $150 more than economy class. Totally worth it for long flights (LAX-BKK).

stardust, sorry to be posting messages in favor of thai and hope you will get some response to your question. we do deviate from the main topic in sajha quite often!

xbox, the only way you can get a good deal on airfare is to shop around. call as many travel agencies as you can. believe me you will notice the difference. an agency might say dates are booked but the other one might say its wide open. so shop around. i usually call a few nepali agencies and local travel agencies (for e.g. we recently booked a flight on thai from a local thai agency). google will bring a lot of agency contacts, call them. you don't have anything to lose. sometimes you might wanna tell them your preferred airline as well. last time i called peaceland and asked for thai. they did a good job!

If you can wait till December, you can fly through HongKong and you might not even need transit visa.
