Every Saturday the door opens, and we all rush, a race of a life time, or more so reminds me of all these soldiers running from 4 direction, into a war zone, whoever gets first to the sight, I guess would expect some sort of a miracle, where ones life’s misery, problems, would be instantly eradicated, or may be if god was in a better mood, they’d be an overnight millionaire, Welcome To Pasupatinath. You turn your head around, you could see a lotta sad faces, of those who had lost their race, and ended up far behind, I guess they knew, by the time it was their turn, there wouldn’t be much left of gods blessings. And even for those, who had put all their energy running and just focused towards their ultimate goal, there was a blockade, or may be it was their own fault, since their offering were not big enough for the priest to acknowledge them, plutocracy , right under the gods nose.

I don’t know if gods blessing, is magical enough to take away the suffering and making one a millionaire overnight, but I am pretty sure, by the time you’re done, the probability of one getting lil less richer is definitely high. Well you do have to spend some money to buy, your lost shoes, flippers, torn shirt, or may be some medicine, since one would just try to please the god by lighting the incense, or may be get you confused with the god, and burn you hand, and oh wait, and if today is not you lucky day, you might just wonder, where did your wallet disappear, and no, its not god, he didn’t take your wallet thinking, oh let me fill that thing up, and put it back.

Now lets not be bias, just towards Pashupatinath, like everywhere there is a competition, no matter where you go, which temple, it’s the same scene, I guess by the end of the day, whoever makes the most out of it, gets some kind of feast in heaven. It’s not gods fault, he can barely even talk, forget about sending you an invitation to come join him, he wouldn’t even come to your dream, unless, that “Puja” you just had in your home, had atleast 10 priest, and ya a grand reception to host them.

Long gone are those days, where one would learn about god or all the magical stories of god thru books, It’s 21st century, put that DVD of “Ramayan”, “Mahabharat”, after all, gods gotta move according to time too. Ya Ya heard it one too many times, God is equal for all, may be its just a coincidence, every time, a god is born in a rich family, well not just that, in a royal family, and with the jewelry’s he has on, even today, could very well get him into the Forbes list of “ Top Ten Billionaire”. And it’s not much different from today’s government, where all the leaders are rich and wealthy, and the citizens are deprived and poor. May be it’s much better now, gods has given us a lil liberty that, we could attend any school, back in those days, if you weren’t from the royal family, you couldn’t get into the same school. Talk about civil liberties and equal human rights, Martin Luther King should have been born during that time.

I just wonder, even at those time, every time there was a problem, drought, poverty, lack of a son, you name it, you gotta perform those lavish “Yagyas”, the offerings, in itself is a eye catching sight. I guess that’s the way god makes you pay his duly taxes. Over time, gods magic has been fading, at least in those days, you did a “Yagya” , there was rain.

We, at least in Nepal and India, are stuck to that, for various reason, we still do the same “Puja”, “Yagya”, only difference, Gods taxes has gone up. Ok fair enough, may be you pay more tax, you get more benefit, but its not much different than social security, you gotta wait for a long time, and your check isn’t much of use by then. Talk about poor people, human nature, or since we have so much belief in god, everyone’s after pleasing the god, well what do you know, there is no discount, for less fortunate people, they still gotta feed the same number of Brahmins, and the offerings should be top notch, well hope is a bad thing at times, it gets you, you save for 6 months, for that “Puja”, and the result is not guaranteed, the only thing that’s guaranteed is, that poor guy, ends up being more, poor. And seriously, you talk of price hiking , you see the most in these priest, their fees have gone up so rapidly, if only each priest were an individual nation, they would hit it right on the top list, in most economically growing nation. And of course, how could a poor guy, just settle with going to the temple, and praying, after all he has also witnessed those lavish functions, and instant result in those DVD’s. He also has seen all the rich folks, doing the “Puja” offering large sum to the temple, and still getting more n more rich. Well Mr. Poor, it works, the only difference is, the more you bribe the god government, the more faster he will process your papers, and that too if you know where to go and who’s the right god.

We do have gods for just about everything, rain, fire, forest, love, sex, pleasure, money, education, ever wondered how much would it cost to run that big of a government. Well they gotta get the revenue from somewhere, after all, whose gonna pay for that grand ceremony, parties, held every weekend in “Swarga” , those gold and diamonds, and those flawless “ Apsaras” they don’t come for free either. So be sure, whose door to knock, before you find yourself, going form one gods department to another, with your problems, and oops, some other god needs to sign the document, and since you don’t have much to offer to this god, he’s in vacation……… for next 6 month.

It’s not much different, than a federal government, where, most of the meaningfull departments is shared between, “Brahma”, “Bhishnu”, and “Maheswor”, and then the rest of the local bodies is divided between other gods. Well the only difference, its not a democratic government, since you cant vote and kick the god out, and no , supreme court is closed forever, so there is no way you can file your petition for discrimination, and biasness, so don’t wait for your day in court. Now does that sound like a dictatorship to you, well it is, or perhaps it’s a mixture of, dictatorship, and a totalitarian government, since there is no other party that’s gonna challenge the existing god government. No wonder, the taxes keeps getting higher, after all, what government would want to get into a deficit.
