Is this kind of bevaviour of teacher common in Nepal ? 9th grader lands in hospital after writing love letter Teachers at a local high school in Dolakha district have gained notoriety for punishing a student for writing a simple “love letter” to a girl. 16-year-old Shyamkaji Pakuwal, a class 9 student in Kalika Higher Secondary School in Sundrawati, Dolakha, was locked up inside a room for hours and mercilessly beaten by his teachers including the school’s principal for expressing his love for a girl studying in the same school through a love letter, something that is pretty normal in adolescent of that age. After receiving such a treatment from his own teachers the boy’s condition became so bad that he had to be taken to the hospital located at the district headquarter for treatment. The boy told media persons from his hospital bed that for the “crime” of writing a simple love letter school principal Krishna Prasad Mainali and two other teachers locked him up inside the office room and beat him up with plastic pipe while showering kicks and punches in his head, chest and back. Balkrishna Khadka, one of the teachers who the boy accuses of beating him, admitted that though they had “grilled” the boy for harassing the girl, they never tortured him. nepalnews.com ag Aug 17 07

Then you have to understand the whole Hindu mentality upon which the whole Nepali society was built. Union of two souls as the western society's definition of Love was virtually non existant in Nepal up untill 2 to 3 decades ago. Marriage was not a choice its was a convenience, and its was always arranged. So when someone like Syamkazi Pakuwal breaks that norm, it is normally seen as a defiance of cultural boundries(set hundreds of years ago). Thus the punishment.

Mejority of the people presume that Muslim social norms are more strict and freedom-less culture. Then what about Hinduism? I don't agree with you, BathroomCoffee, for the punishment that is practiced for sake of intend to love someone in Hinduism. Such type of culture is normally heard from Muslim culture. Hence, punishment is not appropriate word for such acts. Those teachers are educated people.

The report would be more complete if it had mentioned if the girl liked him too. During old times when the guy was whipped, the girl would feel the pain and even whip mark would appear on her skin if they shared true love. You can't find that kinda love in the cities maybe in the villages.

Nepali Bhai,"I don't agree with you, BathroomCoffee, for the punishment that is practiced for sake of intend to love someone in Hinduism. Such type of culture is normally heard from Muslim culture." Nepali Bhai he he R you saying that intercaste, interfaith love is permitted in Hinduism ? he he The religion that would not even allow non Hindus enter their temple(Pashupatinath) ? he he The same relion that would not allow Vaishyas and Sudras(who are Hindus) into their own temples ? he he The same religion that would not allow women into temples and prayer rooms saying they are impure during their menstrual cycle ? Are we talking about the same Hinduism ? TAKE A GOOD LOOK IN THE MIRROR BEFORE YOU START POINTING FINGERS AT OTHERS.

BathroomCoffee Jee, I assume that you have heard well enough about Hinduism. You also have heard about the ancient stories of Hindu mythology including Mahabharat. There are tons of Love stories inluding Krishna having tons of girl friends. Was he good person? To me, your statement was solely on religion/culture based. Do you think those teacher are trying to defend the culture and society or so called religion? Those teachers were nothing but jealous. Do yo think those teachers are preserving social values? BathroomCoffee Jee, elaborate your defending point precisely. Don't talk about fake acts of preserving so called religion. Thank you.

Batas, I agree things are changing. But you have to dig deeper into our culture and religion to understand t where this sort of mentality came from. The core of society and religion which is the base of this action by Mr Khadka. NepaliBhai,"I assume that you have heard well enough about Hinduism. You also have heard about the ancient stories of Hindu mythology including Mahabharat. There are tons of Love stories inluding Krishna having tons of girl friends. Was he good person?" he he Nepalibhai Yes I had heard about Krishna's love affairs and Shiva's debaucheries. Yep !! I had also heard about Mokeys the look like humans flying(Hanuman) in Ramayan. he he That Buddha walked on foot as soon as he was born.etc etc But that was then this is now. Gotta go with how WE the people interprete that Mahabharat and that Ramyayan today. Whether Krishna was a good or a bad person I will never know cause I never met him(therefore can only go by the the book tells us). To answer your question about society and culture...he he Where do you think they came from ? People's society and culture are based upon their religious heritage. Teacher was jelous rey ? he he Dunoo about that. Cause I was not there to observe his jelousy. And what is this this fake act of preserving religion you are talking about ? Hmm Could you elaborate on that ? thanks

I am all in for kicking students ass, but, for a freaking love letter, that is outrageous. no homework, bad behavior is acceptable, but love letter. ;)
