After spending another night in jail on Wednesday, his third since he was granted interim bail on Monday by the Supreme Court, Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt was released from Yervada jail in Pune on Thursday morning.
Sporting a beard, Dutt was seen hugging almost all policemen stationed there.
Dutt, accompanied by his lawyer, went straight to Pune airport from where he flew back to Mumbai by a chartered flight.
On reaching home amidst media frenzy, Dutt hugged both his sisters and his niece.
The chances of Dutt being released on Wednesday from Yervada Jail receded as his lawyers failed to meet a deadline for procuring legal documents related to the interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court.
Dutt had been in Yervada jail for 24 days.
Dutt was sentenced to imprisonment for six years by the TADA court after being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case for illegal possession of arms.
