Nepal reach ACC U-19 Elite Cup finals

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Aug 27 - Three-time champions Nepal marched into the finals of the on-going ACC U-19 Elite Cup with a five-wicket victory against the host, Malaysia, on Monday.

In the final match, Nepal will face the winner of the other semi-finals between Afghanistan and the UAE.

After winning the toss, Nepal elected to field first and forced the hosts to return to the pavilion with just 54 runs in 31 overs.

Captain Parash Khadka proved devastating for the Malaysian batsmen and hauled five wickets while Raj Shrestha took two wickets.

Nepal reached the target in just 20.5 overs losing five wickets.

In today’s match, only two Nepalese players reached double figures with Antim Thapa scoring 13 runs and Akash Gupta 12 runs.

Similarly, Gyanendra Malla, Shahsi KC, Sagar Khadka contributed 4, 5 and 3 runs, respectively. Paras Khadka was duck out.
Nepal defeated Oman, Singapore and the UAE earlier to secure their place in the semi finals of the tournament.

Nepal had beaten Malaysia in the finals of 2001, 2003 and 2005 while in 1997 Nepal lost to Bangladesh.

Nepal will have to beat Scotland, the runners-up of the European Qualifiers, if it wins the tournament to secure a place in the ACC U-19 World Cup 2008.
